OVNIFX Smoothie Compressor

How did I miss this thread? :) Thanks Frank for taking notice.

The knobs are now on. The photos without knobs were from the guy who built these for me, and he didn't happen to have a good knob supplier. I'll post a photo with the knobs soon. The pedals were built by my friend Leszek who was the engineer/designer at Exar effects.

The choice of a two-position threshold switch instead of a threshold knob was the best compromise Leszek could come up with between his circuit design and my wish-list of features. I would have preferred a knob with a wide range, but it wasn't feasible in this case.

It is based around the CA3080 like the dreaded Ross/Dynacomp, however Leszek managed to give it a nearly ruler-flat frequency response and nearly zero noise. The Tone knob is a tilting EQ very much like the one in the Diamond comp. It has an LED to indicate the amount of compression.

Essentially it combines some of the best qualities of the Wampler and the Diamond, in a smaller size.

I only just received the pedals a couple days ago, so I have not yet put up a page advertising them for sale or going into detail. But soon! Very soon.

Thanks for the interest!

Finally someone went the extra mile to design a low noise audio path for the Ross family of compressors. It always baffled me as to why those other builders never tried to make this improvement.

Good luck!:bassist:

I think he was making a subtle joke there. :)

I was more serious than joking actually; I trust your honesty and expertise to the point that I know you'll be realistic about even a product bearing your name.

It's not gonna be the greatest compressor pedal ever, though it may be the best at X price range, or best opto comp, or best without dedicated threshold and ratio knobs.

Whatever the case, I look forward to reading the review.

Thank you for that--and yes, my review will be realistic in the manner of all my other reviews. I always liked how FMR Audio promotes their products with both "what's great about it" and "what sucks about it", totally flying in the face of normal marketing.

I'm in line for a db cl again too, just for flavor. The Cali is still my fav

Yeah, I will definitely get the DB-CL when my name gets called. I know it is a lot of money to have tied up on compressors, but, at this point the DB-CL is just something I need (or want :) ).

I will definitely be interested in what you think about this one.

I've sold an MXR M87 and an Empress. I've got an FEA DB-CL, which I ADORE, on my board now. I've done some research on the Diamond and the Cali, yet I feel as though I NEED an OVNIFX Smoothie...Oh well, it's only money. I'll make more eventually.

When and where do I sign up?

http://www.ovnifx.com is where you can order.

I really want to order one but I am already planning on buying another amp and I have an eye on another bass.....

Maybe if I can sell a couple of pedals. My MSLP Phaser is not selling, maybe I should put my BlueTube on the market, and a couple other ODs maybe. I better go to bed now and sleep on this :)
