Owning both a P Bass and a Jazz

I think the best decision I made recently was to get a Fender Player series P Bass and Jazz. I could not decide which one to get and I considered an American P Bass or Jazz (could not afford both). For a little less I got the best of both worlds and although the American Fenders are better I have no issues with the MIM's. They sound and play great to me. Anyone else love owning both?

I own an Fender MIM Jazz and a Squier CV 60s Precision both with upgraded pickups.

I alternate them daily. You need both.

The new player series are great especially since they have alnico pickups so no need to really swap them. Enjoy! That is a nice pair.

For the record though, I only own P's or P/J's.....

Yup. I have a CIJ 51 P, a MIJ 57 P, a MIM standard P, a Custom Shop 59 P, an American Original 60's P, two American Deluxe Jazz V's, American Standard Jazz V (which I converted to a PJ), and a MIM 60th Anniversary Jazz. They're all fantastic and all get gigged on the regular.

I have been a Jazz guy for decades, had some others just for fun, ended up having just two Basses, my Jazz and my Rick, for 20 some odd years. Then I stumbled upon a Fretless 78 P that was an awesome player, and made an impulse buy.

Really glad I did, as it gives me something very different to work with. Now, had it not been Fretless I wonder if I would have even picked it up to try, as I had sold my only P long ago and was convinced I wasn't into them. Hard to say. I do know that now that I have it, I'd kinda like a fretted one as well. They do things the Jazz doesn't.

So yeah, having one of each is great.

They're two different creatures in terms of tone and feel. And if you're into the Fender sound, it's definitely worth having one of each sitting in your rack. Each does something the other can't. And IMO PJ basses, nice though they may be, don't quite nail the sound of either a PB or JB. They're really each their own thing.

I have 1 pure P style bass, 2 PJs, 2 jazz, one J\MM and 2 double soap bar.
Basses are tools. The more types you have the more jobs you can do properly. There is no reason (beyond finances and maybe space) to NOT have a certain pickup config.

I have American Standards of both, and keep going back and forth over which one is my main bass. Which really means neither is, both are perfect for what they do!
