I thought the battery only thing was for PNP based circuits.

I know there's ways around that stuff too, like floating grounds and/or power inverting chips.... but I gotta admit I don't fully get the concepts behind them yet (but I'm reading up as often as I can)

I got an e-mail few days ago from Ken that ha can't do Ge version without redesiging the whole circuit. He uses low gain silicon trannies that sound very germanium like, but still I don't know if I want Si FF.

Si FF circuits can sound very Ge like with certain mods.
