P Bass and the Grammys

What this is telling us is that p-bass is popular amoung popular music, no secret there. Unfortunately the Grammy's are not what they used to be. Is not always a good measurement for the best. The movie industry is lucky to have Oscars. Unfortunately for the dedicated perfectionists and virtuoso in our industry have the Grammys, which is actually more like the People's Choice awards. Grammy's are not necessarily a measurement of innovation and originality in music anymore, and not as respectable, like the Oscars are in movies, - atleast IMHO (example: **** You by Cee Lo Green)

Did anyone else notice the bass player that was in the front just to the right of the female lead singer (countryish who was wearing what looked like a grass skirt, they all had terrible hair) sorry I forget the group. He was playing a sunburst p bass (rather off beat) and I noticed a guy right behind him also playing a p bass bass. I found it kind of interesting

Are you thinking of The Band Perry? Their hair collectively was pretty unkempt

Mostly P basses, but I saw that Maroon 5 had a Rickenbacker, Katy Perry's bassist had a J, Taylor Swift's had some kind of hollow-body or semi-hollow. It looked like Foster the People had TWO bassists (!), one with a P and one in the back with an Epi Jack Casady. I was also pleased to see that Paul's bassist had an Epi JC. Amazing performances from everyone IMO.

Jc, Did anyone else notice how through a lot of the performances the bands bassist played and there was also a second bassist with an Epiphone JC in a house band perhaps? Why two bassists? Furthermore, why did Maroon 5 need three guitars to play 'Surfer Girl' and why did Bruce Springsteen need 4 guitars (including an acoustic) to play his song? The excess of stringed instruments befuddles me -_-

I noticed the Pino sig on the bass player for Bruno Mars as well. I'd also like to say that up until now I've only coveted a buttery growly jazzy tone that my 70's spacing j-bass delivers. Today I solo'd the neck pup on my jazz when tracking with my group and it brought a lot of depth to the mix. I have to say the next thing I could be gas'n for is a vintage p or a vintage 62 p from fender. Love the tone.

At least they're playing p's and not everyone's playing key bass. Pop is headed that way and it just ain't right.
