P-Bass Club (Part 2) Precision Decisions

Just received my fifth P in the mail today: a '93 P Deluxe project bass. It needs a nut, tuners, pickups, input jack and battery cover but other than that it's in great shape.

The other four are an '03 MIA Standard project bass (neck and body from different '03s), an '08 MIA Standard, an MIM Standard and an '82 Ovation Ultra Bass, P style. There's a thread about the Ovation on here somewhere and I'll try and get a family shot this weekend.

So far it's looking like a keeper. 'Course I haven't played it yet but the body is smaller than a Standard and it's light as hell so that's going to be a big plus once I get it back together. Tonal options should be plentiful too with the humbucker at the bridge. The abalone dot inlays add a touch of class to it, plus it has four knobs....And knobs are ALWAYS a good thing!

Sounds great!

It has a few extra frets too, another bonus, I love knobs, frets and extra pickups!:D

Oh yeah, how could I forget the two extra frets????

Edit: My mom just came by for a visit. She walked in at the moment I was putting the Deluxe back in its case and even though it's basically just a shell of a bass she exclaimed, "Oh, my! That is just beautiful!"

I don't think she's ever had anything to say about any other instrument I've owned...For some reason this one struck her in some way. It is a nice looking bass, but still....

That is a 1982 P-Bass Special...active electronics w/ a passive/active switch. The first knob is Volume, the second Treble boost and the third is Bass Boost in active mode. In passive mode first knob is volume, second is tone, like normal P...I don't belive Fender made too many of these, something like 1500 from 81-83. This sound right? Anyone? Pick-up is standard Fender issue.

From 1982 through 1985 all Fender basses except the vintage reissues had white pickup covers. The Precision Special had them when they were introduced in 1980 except for the Walnut model which had a black pickguard and pickup covers.

I also coach...talk about time consuming...we had a 5 OT basketball game tonight. Love it all...I need to buy another P bass to celebrate my divorce...lol.
