P-Bass Club (Part 2) Precision Decisions

Crummy camera phone pic of my "last man standing" - a 1971 Precision that is part of a personal lineage of P's going back 18 years or so.
Previously owned Precisions:
1973 P - natural refin/tortise/rosewood
1996 Deluxe P - vintage white trans/tortise/rosewood
1975 P - black/white/maple (!!!PAINS OF REGRET!!!)
1983 Fullerton RI '57 - two tone burst/gold guard/maple neck
1983 P - Cream/white/maple (with white pickup covers too!)
2001 '51 P reissue - butterscotch/black/maple
1972 P - white refin/tortise/rosewood
1983 Squire SQ P - black/black/rosewood

and 2 - 1981 G&L L1000's (which I consider to be a real Leo Fender P anyway)

All gone now except for the pictured 1971!

i have a friend with one of those. the model name Escapes me. never the less that is one nice bass. I think that’s the first one I’ve seen here on TB.

Tried it and what I got was a big gap around the neck heal on the fretless so I decided to not. good call tho. it is fun having multiple p’s and being able to switch around the parts from time to time.

Loving that natural P you have, but the tortoise really getsm e.
I simply refuse to accept tortoise shell anything.

How do you like it?
It seems like a bit of tonal variation is lost with only 2 pots.

Like hypercarrots said, they're stacked knobs. Volume/blend and Treble/bass. I like it a lot. I'm very very impressed with this bass. It's turning out to be my favorite to play.

A Fender Precision from Japan - 1995 - Excellent playability; construction and sound. And I like the looks too. You don't see many like this one.

See that looks damn good. The neck is bright...but in a good way...and will age eventually. Ive seen guy on youtube with the maple / sburst / tort on a Jazz. It looks fantastic...as much as the rosewood is easier on the eye...when you turn round you will see th back of the neck against the dark body anyway.

Thing is...i really want to keep the tort guard...I love that sburst/tort combo.

That'll look very cool too, there is definitely something about a dark body with a maple neck for sure. I was considering a tort guard (it had a gold one originally), but I then saw the SB/Maple/Black combo on someone else's post (very '70s, very rock) and was immediately sold. I've only had the new p/g fitted for a couple of days and can't stop looking at it. Hmm maybe I should play sometime

Yeah it is an RW, but as you can see I've "done things" to it. I was looking for a really good P bass with maple to customise and the RW was the nicest that I tried. Added the 2nd P p/up, D tuner and black p/g. Also striped the nitro off the back of the neck and did a little reshaping to more resemble the feel of my '63. I'm very pleased with the result.

Update....all my musician friends say maple bar one...and my girlfriend sticks with rosewood...
