P-Bass Club (Part 2) Precision Decisions

I just finished this:

'09 MIM Jazz neck and P-body, Hipshot HB7's (from BestBassGear), SD 1/4 pounder, Fender '75 RI bridge and other hardware
and electronics (from Invalid Link Removed), AllParts pickguard and pro set-up and new bone nut from Ed Clark.
It plays like a dream, I can't wait 'til the strings break in.
One of my projects, Link Removed, is playing more Motown and less hard rock, so I decided I should try a Precision. I like it.
Not sure if I'll need to bring along the (EBMM) Sterling anymore or not.
Total cost was about $650, but the pup was a gift from my friend Vinny.
Better than paying the Fender CS $6000 for basically the same thing!

so, as i will have 3 months free time in a few days, i thought i might refinish my franken-p-bass. new color and new pickup, maybe tinting the neck.

right now the bass is dark red (last picture). i'm not sure which color to choose, so i did a rather poor mockup with photoshop. my current favorite is the light blue.

as i want the bass to sound more vintage, the gfs overwound will have to go and probably will be replaced by a fender vintage pickup (or a seymour duncan sspb1). i hope they are all right? opinions?

and a last question: i like the look of those gun oil tinted necks. i suppose, i just need to remove the finish a rub on some gun oil, right?

I like the turquoise and orange (?) ones. There are some threads on gun oil and other finishes in the repair forum, here's one I started

Just picked this one up last night. It's a beauty. '83 Fullerton.
The stamp on the neck said H. Gastelum. A bit of googling gave me the name of Fender's guru neck shaper- Herbie Gastelum. ie: GOD. She looks pretty beat up but plays smoother than any bass I own.

My first thoughts were to replace the PG but the chewed up single ply is kinda growing on me.

Thanks cock_lynn, I'm starting to get the hang of p-bass-ism. This afternoon I did a little height adjustment on the bass-side pup. With the tone knob rolled off about 3/4 I was able to get a nice, punchy thump that cut through the drums and guitars pretty well this evening. The amp settings were what I use with my Jazz basses. Even though it may be simple, it's not as easy as it looks. A little tweak here and there pays off more than I thought it would. I also have to do some more experimenting with my amp settings. Even though the Jazz is passive and the Sterling is active, they're a lot closer to each other than to the Precision. I'm in a whole new music environment. I'm actually having a ball with this. It doesn't hurt that the thing plays like a dream. I'm using Daddario ground-rounds, .105 -.050. I can understand why this string isn't the most popular, and I doubt that I'd go this way again, but even with the medium-stiff tension and "sticky" wrap, I'm getting easy action and a good sound out of the P-bass.

*pukes* maybe i have another taste but those finishes are SOOOOOOOOOOOO ugly with that tort :crying::crying::bawl:

Hi Precision People!

I have a thread on the Pickups forum asking for help with how to wire together a split pickup which previously was used with an S-1 switch (the pickup is from a USA '05
p-bass).

I need someone with experience of removing the S-1 switch or knows how to reconnect the pickup-halves. I'm also confused about the correct orientation when installing in the bass.
