How about my '87 MIJ, just a few mods with the maple neck and Lindy Fralin P/U......
This is the one that I will be buried with!! LOL...

SX fender style basses are a very good value. Kurt, the guy who owns Rondo, is a standup guy, great customer service! There is a lot of SX love on here, from me too! WHAT you haven't ordered it YET???

The only con I have personally is if you mod it and sell it you will lose money. But I don't buy with selling in mind... only playing! :bassist:

Oh yeah, some people prefer the LTD line, I have never owned one, and only played a practically new one in the store. I have no need/desire to get an LTD. And 2 of my 5 SX fender styles are stock, and intended to stay that way!

'03 CIJ '51 Reissue (before I put the bell and ashtray on)

Also have a '88 CIJ '57 Reissue body fitted with a SD Vintage-P pu and an ESP P53 21-fret neck (what can I say, I love the Tele-style headstock!)

Can I have #1966? Easy for me to remember (as things get harder to)! :D

1969 Precision.....whats left of her. Double SD MM's and the usual home made preamp. The 1982 Reissue guard needed to be sacrificed but I was willing to do it for science.
Her evil twin is on the Jazz Bass thread. I had to replace the neck with a Warmoth years ago because of a bad refret. It now has a 34.5 scale.....yes it's possible in in 440 with the preamp on full you would swear the sky is falling. Another bass i have with 26 years of service.
I paid $250 for this one and the 1969 Jazz back in 1982.....not bad for the pair.
You gotta love it.

Another 1969 Precision in the middle of a slight repair job. The neck pickup and electronics were destroyed by a falling light truss which also snapped the neck and dented the anodized guard all to hell.
She used to be Oly white but when your young and stupid, well you know the rest. I got her around 1988.

Don't know if I love it or hate it... saw the Jazz on the thread... I bit over reliced IMO... as for the two mm pups... over the top or what?

I've a feeling you've destroyed what used to be a couple of nice basses... sorry.

Do them a favour and get them back to their originality.

You can't over relic when you play them for decades. These aren't weekend belt sanded projects.
Back in the late '80's when I put original Music Man pups in I was looking for a way to get at least 7 different basses in one and I found the perfect mix. There are plenty of great looking stock Fenders out there but none that are as versital or hard hitting.
Over the years I experimented with my own electronics till I got it right. I'm not the kind of player that settles for off-the-shelf basses and quite frankly I couldn't find one that had what I wanted. Taking what I already had through years of trials plus thousands of gigs made for an interesting ride.

Ruining perfectly good basses isn't really true. They suffered from bad frets and dead spots, body warping and overall bad mojo. You don't have to love them, but you should hear the tone.

Look at what Ernie Ball is doing now and Fender Japan plus a slew of European and boutique makers.....they're putting in dual MM pickups. It took them 20 years to cath on to what I've already figured out.

ok on the pickups (although IMO that is the defining element of a bass regardless of its shape--so IMO you don't have J's or P's, you have frankensteins with double MM's. Thats cool). But why would you further relic them? It just looks too unnatural to me. Not weekend sanded but certainly some level of intentional aging, right?l

Nope, it's all natural. I sweat like a rabid dog and the finish will actually change color after a gig, it gets lighter and pasty. I used to play with a leather 3/4 arm band to keep my arm from falling off the top and that took most of the fullerplast off. Again the pics are too bright to show layering (if that makes sense). Not every guitar wears out the same and some players I know have played longer than me and their guitars show very little wear.
