I have only owned passive p mia's in the past.
I am getting a deluxe mia p soon and wondering if you can play it as passive or active at the touch of the switch. And if you can mix the two?????

From the Fender site... emphasis mine.

The 2010 P Bass Deluxe

Electronics
Pickup Configuration: S/S
Bridge Pickup: N3 Noiseless™ Jazz Bass® Bridge Pickup
Middle Pickup: Deluxe Split-Coil Precision Bass® Pickup
Pickup Switching: Pan Pot
Special Electronics: Active Electronics
Controls: Master Volume, Pan Pot (pickup selector), Treble Boost/Cut, Midrange Boost/Cut, Bass Boost/Cut, Active/Passive Mini Toggle

I've never heard of mixing active and passive..... most boost/cut tone controls are flat EQ at the center.. which would be be like passive (assuming the EQ preamp and passive mode are the same volume) sooooo... not using any active EQ is like passive (sorta)

so this would that i could play it in passive like a standard mia p??

The deluxe P bass I have is the only Active Fender I have . I do think that once you have one and play it, you'll forget about any kind of passive active mix. The bass sounds great My other P basses are passive and both the road worn and the P Amer.V also sound great. However for contrast and a cutting edge sound without any pedal enhancement, you can't beat the deluxe sound.....Mine is the discontinued Montego Black .......

Yeah. I've noticed the new P Bass Deluxe models only have the single jazz pickup instead of the double jazz humbucker. That's too bad. I have seen a couple left overs with the humbucker in a few stores. Hopefully you luck out and find one.

i like the look of the new one i hope it sounds good i pulled the trigger on one today white with black pic guard + i like active passive switch on the new mia Deluxe.

I also love mine..2004 model, plays sooo good. I've owned a few basses in my time and this one is the best by far.Nails P Tone and has an Epic Jazz Tone, and even more Epic P/J tone. The best thing Fender has made for a working Musician {IMO}..I wish mine had the switch though.

There's a 2009 model in inventory (I haven't called to make sure) ... similar to my 2007 model.

I concur with former comments in this thread. the bridge humbucker is great. I play mostly P-sounds which are phenomenal too, but with flats, I get a "Dire Straits wal sound" if required with the bridge pup.

The only complaint I might have is that the preamp hisses when the treble is boosted. But, I never boost the treble. I put a hipshot bridge on mine, and it is so easy to set up now.
