It seems no matter what I try and no matter how great my other basses are, I keep coming back to the good old Fender Precision. I love how it feels, I love how it sounds.
I loaned my main P-bass to a friend for a couple months, during which I played mainly a Jazz Bass---I know they are incredibly popular around here, but...ick. I tried, I really tried, to bond with it; it was fixed up, upgraded, set up to the point where it was a great player, but I just couldn't get comfortable with it. Yesterday my friend brought back my old pal. I put on fresh strings and set him up...aah, yes, now that's what I'm talking about!
I have had an epiphany. A couple nice Precisions are all I need. I sold the Jazz, and I'm putting a couple of my other basses up for sale too. I've got an old road warrior Guild Pilot and a new Schecter Stiletto Elite 4, and they are great basses, and I don't dislike them, but they just sit in their cases.
I'm sure GAS will strike again, and I will probably buy and sell more basses in the future, but those will be curiosities and diversions; I can't see anything supplanting the Precision as my main go-to bass.
P.S. My friend who borrowed my Precision is getting his own SX P-bass now.
