P-Bass Pick-guard....Tort vs Black

Black works there's no question about that. But it's a very flat, uncomplex finish.
But tort has a sophistication, an extra dimension, and references back to the 60's without looking retro. This usually means it's just right!

The answer is simple:
replace the neck with a rosewood neck, and the body with a black body - and then use a tortoise pickguard.

Thanks for all of the responses. Seeing that I already have the tort guard I'm going to buy a black one. I really like how both look, but there's sort of an understated elegance with the black (especially when there is already so much flame on the bass' body).
