Ow, my head.I've heard good things from users of 60's style vintage wound pickups for funk, such as the ones fender produce, or the ones you can get from almost any custom pickup shop.

If you buy anything active(especially EMG), make sure you have a preamp to use along with your amp head. Even if you do go through "low gain", it will still eat up your speaker, in a short amount of time.
I think it's a bad idea to mod your MIM Fender with anything but Fender(I'm a Fender purist). It'll devalue in the long run, plus another companie's pickup will only make it less Fender.

DiMarzio - I've used them for 30 years 
. I recommend fitting the series/parallel switch (you can get a combination pot and DPDT switch) for the tonal variation.

Depending on what tone you looking for. You want a Pup that thunders the lows and screams the highs get a SD Quarter Pounder. WARNING this Pup has a very limited Mid Range.
