P-Bass Players - Flatwounds or Roundwounds (POLL)

Flats on my P for this boy. I hate the squeaking sounds rounds make when you move your fingers. Leave that for the guitars. Old School all the way!

I love the old rounds tone! I currently only have a Squier Affinity Jazz V (w/ Rounds), and I use to be flat-out crazy (pun intended) but now I'm a rounds guy. My last bass was an Ibanez GSR200 P/J (90% of the time just "P") w/ Ernie Ball Heavy-Gauge Slinky Rounds that sounded really good.

Roundwounds on the low end for the growl.
Flats on the high end for the mellow tone.

I have flats on my 50s P bass for blues and jazz

Flats on P's just sounds kick ass just asound you cant get with rounds i use rounds on my Jazz

i use flats on both my P's & my Jazz.
i tried loads of flats & didn't like 'em much then tried some Ernie Ball group IV flats & love 'em to bits.fairly bright but loads of punch & clarity right accross the fret board.

I vote for flats since my P-Bass is custom fretless and that gives me a nice thuddy sound for my jazz group. The rounds were too bright and would chew up my bare wood neck.

Although, if the bass had frets, I would vote for rounds.

My P bass has a Darkstar, and flats just have this killer throaty sound. I'm generally a roundwound guy, but it seems like with the Darkstar, flats just help the focus on that throaty sound. Roundwounds on my Jazzes.

Used to play rounds all the time with a pick. I could never find the sound I really wanted, no matter how warm the amp.

Switched to flats and fingerstyle. Never looked back. I pick up my P with rounds and for a few minutes I dig the change of sound but then it goes back in it's case and it's back to the P with TI Flats.

Dirty, dusty and funky.

I only voted for roundwounds cause that's all I've ever used on my P. When finances and time allows I'll have a look at flats.

Same for me. I'd like to try Rounds one time, but I've now defretted my P bass so it might not be the same.

I picked a P- a couple a months ago and have some Labella's on it. I have a J with flats, I was using nylon coated, I had the one set for like 5 years. For my self I don't like the brightness of rounds after all, it is called bass.

Split Coil P-Basses I like Pure Nickel Rounds. Fender 7150's in particular.
Single Coil P-Basses like the 51 reissue I prefer flats for that authentic vintage sound.
Technically though, I like Flats on a P-Bass, Rounds on a Jazz.
