Oddly enough, it worked fine wired directly to the jack. That threw me off and I went back and redid all the wiring and checked everything again with multimeter. Still sounded bad etc. Finally out of frustration, I tried the new pickups with the wiring and viola'. It worked beautifully.

Friend of mine did some work on my Sting Signature P, and when it came back, the tone pot was behaving very much like a volume pot. The culprit was the new cap he installed...I think it was being put under a bit of physical pressure once the control plate was buttoned down. Adjusted where/how it sits a smidge, and voila. A tone pot again.
