P Bass with a J neck

This is an American Pro J neck on a P body of unclear provenance. Screwed right on and felt great from the beginning. It's a '63 Fender Custom Shop pickup. Actually a pretty nice bass. It has Chromes currently but I've had NYXLs on it also, for a 70s sound. Both sound good.

I've been sitting on the parts for a warmoth build like this for a while. It's kind of my winter project. Fender only seems to intermittently offer basses in this configuration, which I don't get. There are a couple Laklands models like that, as well as some others. For me, all of my "fenders" are warmoth anyway, because I like to be able to pick and choose

I love my MIA P even more with the Allparts J neck on it. AND YES - FURY! They have a sound that is even "More P" if you can relate to that, and a really great neck.

All of my “fenderish” necks are Warmoth P specs, which aren’t quite P specs. More like a hybrid P/J favoring the P side...

I have other brands of g-tars with I would guess more J type, I switch between them so often I can play anything.

PJ configuration on a P body with a J neck IMO is the ultimate Fender.

So I have all these Jazz Basses ... And one P Bass. It's strung with flats, it's black and maple (just like the bass I learned on) and it plays and sounds great. I just .... Don't gel with it. It's not the bass, it's me, I am really comfortable with a Jazz style neck. So, what are my options? It's not a bass that I will play all the time, so I don't want to spend too much on it, about as much as a used USA Fender will cost, maybe a little more.

Fender or Fender style for sure. All I want is a single P pickup, doesn't need to be active. I *really* want a purple sparkle Adam Clayton, but those are pretty rare!

I should also say that I don't want to go the parts route and/or try to buy a different neck for a regular P Bass.

You aren't looking for parts, but if you ever do, hit me up. I have a USCG jazz neck i might sell. Better than Fender.

If you're fine with a PJ, ESP LTD's AP-204 and AP-4 have a smaller neck profile.

I think every one I've seen was a pj.
Yamaha, g&l USA and tribute sb2, Fender deluxe, Squier, some others.

I just put on a new neck. Mighty mite is great, but there's fender as well.

But you do have to wonder why fender doesn't just make one.

I have that very bass and it has become my fav! I did change to Yosemite pups however and it sounds fabulous.

We should start a neck swapping club here. I'm another guy who's basses all have P width necks -even if they have J pickups on them. Actually, my J's also have P bodies....

The "A" Fender neck has the same specs as a Jazz neck. If you can find a P bass with an 'A' neck you're in business. Other wise just put a jazz bass neck on your P.

You could just take a neck from one of your current j basses to see how easy it is.
