P/J question...active or passive?

Hi all,

I have two Fender MIA jazzes. One is a 2008 stock. The other is a 99 I just bought from another TBer that has DiMarzio Model J's and an Audere pre.

I want to make one of them into a PJ, but I can't very well test out how they would sound with the different components as I have to route to install the P pickup (DiMarzio Model P).

My question is this: should I combine with the Model J in the Audere-equipped bass, or should I combine with the stock Fender in the passive bass?

Thoughts?

The 2008 Fenders seem to be popular and therefore have some resale value in stock condition. I'd mod the '99.

Try to do a "universal route" so that you'll be able to use either p or j or maybe others. I'd leave the 2008 alone, BTW.
