P-Retro, did anyone see this yet???

Everything that has been covered by John East's product description and function, works as advertised. I had thought long and hard about changing out the stock pup and/or adding a J. Then the P-Retro came along. This is all that you'll need. I know that I am totally covered without losing the root sound of the Precision.

I like the idea but the fact it uses lipo batteries scares me alittle. I Build airsoft guns for friends and stuff. And a few years back lipo batteries became very popular in the airsoft scene. I have had 3 catch fire and that was on the charge balencer which limits the voltage per cell so one doesnt over charge. I dont like the idea of charging the battery inside the bass then you lose a bass, and and expensive pre amp. Make one that runs on 9 volt batteries and ill buy one.

Yeah, but don't they also everyday items such as iPods and cell phones? I think it's a good technology...but agree...it would be nice to have a 9 volt option.

I shared your fears ref li-pol batteries and took several years of testing them with my charger system, before releasing any products. Of course they are in phones and iPods etc, and are actually very reliable. I believe the early iPods used a bunch of them in parallel, a bunch of thin cells for the slim profile, which could cause trouble.

I have just two cells in series with separate protection on each. They are low power and include multiple protection systems. If they fail, they tend to stop taking charge, and I've never had any fail as you experienced. They are custom made, all within the highly stringent USA UL safety standards.

My intention was to create a unit which would fit a standard P bass with no physical changes to the body, such that you could re-fit the original electronics to return it to stock at any time in the future.

A standard 9V battery doesn't fit the P route, and if there was a standard 9V battery that did fit, it wouldn't be quick to change, taking account of the number screws, and loosening the strings, if not removing them etc.

So the intention was that my system required no tedious access to batteries, and if the battery runs out of charge, it automatically switches back to passive, allowing the stock volume and tone to operate as normal, without a break in sound.
