Sounds like an added, completely unnecessary hassle to me. I've never had an interest in owning an active bass and your anecdote absolutely convinced me to never buy one.
I've already got a limited skill set and other things to worry about when playing. I don't need to add to the list the possibility of the battery in my bass going out.
You're right. Keeping a functioning battery in my bass is WAAAAYY too complicated, labor intensive and stressful. As of now, all my active basses are going to be sold... Come to think of it, actually having to plug in an amp AND the possibility of a power failure is also weighing heavily on my peace of mind. I'm going full acoustic!! OMG what if I break a string?!?!?.......
