Pairing a cabinet with a head

A single 15" got me through most of the the first 15 years I was playing/jamming/gigging. And even though I now have 2x10", 4x10", and 2x15" cabs, it's a 1x15" and a Hartke 3500 head (240w/rms into the 8ohm cab) I'm taking out to play this Wednesday night. Moderate volume levels, 3-pc with a few other sitting in. My rig will do just fine.

Not what you ordered, but get a Fender Rumble 500 combo. A great sounding lightweight option with plenty of headroom. If you are not sure what you want, you better take the safe road for now. You will not outgrow the Rumble any time soon. Get a cab/head later on, when you have more money and know what your preferences are.

I just wanted to give an update as to what i decided. I went with the 115 300w at 4 ohms paired with an Aguilar Tone Hammer 350. Im so happy with it! I do have a question though, after only about 20 minutes of playing the cooling fan comes on in the head. Is that normal? Im only at practice level volumes.

I think your sinobas cab was the one i was lusting for on Instagram! I also have a th350, so I’m especially glad you’re digging the combo. Would you mind posting a pic?

Heck yeah man! My idol when it comes to bass playing is Pino Palladino. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to “voodoo”-DeAngelo. This cab gives me everything I need to get some of pinos low end vibes while also making it my own.

Without getting into over/"under"powering cabinet discussion, :bookworm: :yawn: ;)

I suggest a USED (not that there's a choice) Genz Benz Shuttle 6 - 6.2.
Its about 375 Watts @ 8 Ohms, and 600 Watts @ 4 Ohms. Once you love how great it sounds with the 1st 8 ohm 115, you have room to add another IDENTICAL 115 cabinet (if you want/need it down the road- which you most likely wouldn't, but the option it there.)

You CAN find them for low $300's, if patient, MAYBE a hair less.
AND, if the whole "used amp head" makes ya worried, fear not, the guy who [designed?] them is a member here, and there's still parts and support if something did go sideways. (though they have a pretty good rep anyway from what I've read).

I got mine used several years ago for much more than 300, and before I knew the rep and support, and she's still going strong, and I feel better than ever. :thumbsup:

I run mine with 2 8 Ohm 112 Epifani cabinets. and it kills, no trouble with my 5 strings. :bassist:

What kind of 115 do you have? (I guess I shoulda read the entire thread before posting.) :laugh:

I may be ordering my cab by the end of the week. Almost the same specs as your cab, but I’m thinking chrome corners and the blue-white-silver grill for the 70’s “fender” flavor and to match the blinding blue lights on the th350.

If I HAD to choose only one, (115 OR a 210) I would take the 115.

(though, I might have chosen the 8 Ohm..) ;)

Don't know bout the fan dealio, but that's a nice sounding head..

Good luck with your new rig! I dont have an answer about the fan either, but enjoy that rig for as long as you can. Not disagreeing with 8ohms being a more scalable option but I can say there are only so many bases you can cover.

Meaning by going 8ohms, you will indeed get the maximum power from your Tone Hammer (for example if it's 350 watts at 4 ohms it''l deliver 175watts on an 8ohms cab). You may want to be careful with your volume, those TH's do have power from what I heard and I think you have a head that is rated to output higher than the cab. You want to avoid cooking your new toys! Have fun, crank it up
