Its a Peavey Grind 5 Bass. Check it out on the internet its got some pretty good reviews.

Ibanez sr755 absolute killer sound with the nordstrand pups going. Split single neck and a single at the bridge. Passive switch, throw on the active for a bit of extra accentuation or aggro. Got it last week, I'm in the same boat it is killer if you like the 24 feet style. Otherwise I'd personally grab an AM 5 P. good luck!

This is a good recommendation, along with the SR655 which is the same but has an ash body. The CND (Carey Nordstrand Designed) split-coil produces a true P-bass tone, especially in passive mode of course. I've tried a few basses in this series, both fours and fives, and they seem very good. I love the ergonomics. Great values too.

Also, G&L is about to release a passive JB5, which will have a slightly wider nut than their other fives, but the same 17mm spacing at the bridge. Fender's American Standard Jazz V is great, but G&L's are generally a step up IMO. (I sold an excellent Jazz V because I never played it after I got an M-2500.) If I find I want a second five, I'll probably order one of these. You can read more about this in the Rocket Music forum here on TB.

I own the VM 5 string P Bass it's a very solid all rounder, for what you pay for it I was and still am very happy with what it is.

I gig my Squier VMP5 along side my Fender Reggie Hamilton PJ5 and it is as good to me. Sometimes that's upsetting considering what the Reggie is worth, sometimes it's awesome I lucked out on a great Squier! It depends what day it is...lol

Based on the earlier statement of wanting two pickups, I assume you mean the VM Jazz? All the one's I've played have been perfectly serviceable instruments.

It wouldn't be much trouble for a competent tech to rout a VM P for a J bridge pickup either, and would still be way way under budget.

The Yamaha BB425 or BB1025 would be great choices. The Carvin P5 does come passive if that is how you want it.

My primary bass is a Godin Shifter Classic 5 (the JJ configuration), and I love it. I mostly like it for the neck; the string spacing is perfect, the width is just right... And the sounds you can get out of it are great. I'd be happy to entertain any questions you have about the bass, there doesn't seem to be a lot of them kicking around on TB.
