i have a squier modified jazz bass ...
how do i make it sound closer to fender Marcus miller ?
Do i have to put a J retro ?

A seymour duncan STC-3P is designed for adding to passive pickups to make them active. I'm currently trying to install one in one of my basses with an active/passive switch so I can run both modes.
