Paul Jackson Bad Pocket???

Agreed on all counts.
:cool:

I consider the Mike Clark/Paul Jackson thing essential study for the evolving electric bassist. If I were to write a Funk Bass Curriculum (which I have been considering) these guys would definitely be a chapter unto themselves. Bootsy would also be included in the course. Young Bootsy, when he was with James Brown is one of the reasons I play bass. The song give it up or turn it loose (Jungle remix) does it for me. and is a great exercise for many reasons for all interested in really studying and playing funk bass.

You guys seem to know alot about pocket play, here's a problem I thought maybe you could solve: I just played with something of similarity to a sausage in my pocket and my hands and pants are now all covered in goo. What do I do?

This thread demonstrates why I didn't start my 'Jamerson was like....just OK at the bass man' thread.

SO glad to have found so many fellow-Paul Jackson accolytes. His playing gives me heart palpatations. The good kind. If only I could stop spraying lysol all over my computer speakers to get that stank smell out of it.

laughed that hard in a long time!

I'm a geezer, played all this stuff when it was fresh - please OP don't take it too hard

I've been trying to cop these grooves for 35 yrs now lmao

PJ has the badest feel on the planet - laughing again

the way it was explained to me by older players back in the
'70s - the beat is not a dot or a period in time - it can be as big as a basketball - you can play on the front edge, just behind the front edge, in the middle, a bit behind or, as we called this back then;

FATBACK - way laid back EXCEPT for the ONE:hyper:

OP, you need bigger ears
