PAWN SHOP BEATER MIK SQUIER

I'm home sick with the flue tonight and thought you might appreciate(or hate)this one. Got it from a pawn shop a while back, complete with multiple refins, homemade pickguard and "straight to jack" wiring. The neck is actually very, very good and the bass sounds pretty damn strong.

Enjoy!

This is cool in its own way. I like basses that are different enough that it makes people come up and and say something like, "So...what's the deal with that bass?" Or, "Where'd you get that - I've never seen one of those before."

Nah. The skulls have to stay. Serious mojo right there.

Can't argue the point......BUT. *I* would loose the scratch plate (and maybe the tuners). It's all about the OP's needs / taste. I will comment how interesting it is that some of the best instruments come into folk's hands through pawn shops, back rooms of music stores, garage sales, or off Craigslist (or something similar). ENJOY ;)

Thanks for the comments gang! I'm surprised there haven't been any full blown haters so far.

I picked this up for a friend who's son is starting to get into playing "aggressive" music, unfortunately he doesn't like the blue or green or whatever colour this thing is, basically because it isn't black. I couldn't even get him to plug it in, he turned-up his nose, the funny thing is I was going to rattle can it for him. Basically at this point, he's not getting $h!* from me....brat.

Mojo skulls for the win.

I see something like that and think, "Well, somebody must have thought that was cool as hell at some point". It almost seems a shame to get rid of it.

Personally, I would never purposely install a pickguard with screaming skulls, but on this bass, it works. Plus, you really can blame the previous owner if you need to defend your honor...or sanity.

Ahh man, that's a bummer. He's missing out!

Yea, he sure is, but he digs his black on black Dean starter bass, and honestly whatever stokes-out kids enough to keep them playing is truly the "right" instrument.

I figured I could always sell the neck-off and make a little cash if it didn't work out but one of the attaching bolt holes has been stripped and repaired. I'll probably toss it up on the 'Bay, chances are I'll still make a few bucks. In the meantime I'm actually enjoying the P-bass/no tone/no volume thing, to me it sounds different than both knobs all the way up, although I'm sure I'm wrong.

I also never would have installed it. But if I bought a bass with that pickguard it would stay. I have other basses if I need to play a jazz gig or something. :) Just how I saw it.

But I also have a tendency to buy ugly tacky ski gear. Guess I'm just into ugly and tacky. Too bad it's not the 80's anymore....

that's really cool! I like the bold color pickguard, its just the right contrast for the body color. DON'T change a thing. If you or that kid doesn't want it, somebody will.

is the black texturing under or over the blue/green? I'm thinking it must have been lightly applied with a very textured sponge or something.
