Paypal Question

My ratings are at 100% and they still will sometimes hold funds until a) I can provide shipping details showing it arrived, b) The buyer leaves positive feedback, or c) some time period (I forget what it is).

Ahhh, I forgot about that part. I think when I went thru this paypal said either the buyer has to leave positive feedback or if they left no feedback at all, THEN I'd get the money in 30 DAYS.

Recently I sold a guitar for $500. I left the guy positive feedback, he got it, said he liked it, but never bothered to leave feedback. So I'd have had my money sitting for 30 days. Jeesh.

Sometimes I think ebay does this to get rid of the little sellers as it seems they are going more towards the online store front a la Amazon.

now it says it takes 5 business days to put the money from my debit to my paypal to pay the shipping. this is truly ridiculous.

Same thing happened to me. I don't keep a paypal balance, and you can't fund a UPS shipment without it. (you can't use an alternate funding source). USPS lets you.

So.....what this means is that if you print the UPS shipping label directly from UPS and outside of Paypal, Paypal will have no record of it shipping and you then have to rely on the buyer to leave positive feedback or wait the 3 weeks or whatever the time frame is.

Adam

this is seriously such bad news for me. PayPAL my ass.

this is seriously just the most insane stupid thing i have ever used. So now i have to go to the ups store to drop off my box, send it. wait till next week when he gets it and leaves feedback, granted he does, let it go into my paypal, then spend a few more days waiting for it to hit my bank account, probably the following week. So this is me waiting 2+ weeks for money that i REALLY needed. I sold the stuff because i really needed the money, not for this ****.

I emailed the buyer and explained my situation to him. Here is his response email...

"Hi: I just got in from work and I got a bunch of things going on. PayPal should not be holding any payment. The funds came directly from my bank account and should be accessible to you. I am Premiere Verified with PayPal, so maybe I have some clout. I've never heard of such a thing. I am working (mostly) from home tomorrow and I will get on their **** immediately!

Thanks, Bill"

He is doing his best to try and help the situation. Makes me feel a lot better about it all.

I wouldn't ship until the payment arrives - and if that means 20 days, so be it. I'd email the buyer immediately and tell him what happened, apologize for the delay, and suggest that he complain to Ebay.

But I would not ship until paid.

You're not the first that has said that and it doesn't work. He complains (rightfully so) about an item he paid for to Paypal/Ebay. Paypal tells you to ship or they refund his money and you get a negative rating.

Basically you can't exist in the Ebay/Paypal eco-system if you don't play by their rules.

If your Paypal balance shows the amount, you've been paid (technically). If you start a transfer from Paypal to a bank, that's moving your funds-after you've already been paid.

Premier Paypal (level) does not cost much and provides the Paypal Debit card. It can be used for cash advances, or like a debit card for goods or at a gas station.

I went through this drill and it's why I don't use Paypal anymore.

Make sure you put the tracking number into Paypal. When you do that, it will clear like 48 hours after it UPS shows has delivered. Then you don't have to wait for the positive feedback to release the funds.

Adam is correct. You do not get to dictate the terms of the deal. If you say "I'm not shipping until I get my money" then you will not ever get your money--it's that simple.

The only way around this, within their rules, is to keep steadily doing business on Ebay. Believe it or not, the question of whether you have a bunch of positive feedback is less of an issue here compared to whether you have done deals on Ebay recently. You can have a thousand 100% positive feedbacks, but if you haven't done any transactions in the last six months or so they will hold your money. So it's actually a way to keep people "enslaved" to doing business on Ebay. Of course if you have low/no feedback then they're going to hold your money regardless.
