PC line-in questions

I plugged my ele guitar to the amp and then connected to line-in of computer. When I listened to it thru PC, the volume is lower than I listened directly from the amp with same volume level. Pls advise how to improve it. is it the problem of the sound card?

How did you connect the amp to the PC?
Did you use the headphone, Line out, other?

On the surface, your question is a bit odd to me. Did you expect the pc speakers to be as loud as a guitar amp's speaker cabinet?

What are you trying to do with the PC?

I used normal audio cable to connect the phones of the amp to the line-in of the PC.
If I plugged earphone to the phones of the amp, the volume was absolutely okay.
But if I listened to it from PC connected to the amp, the volume was low.

I'm trying to record some guitar sound to PC...any advice. thanks!

Ah, I see.

Did you try adjusting the sound levels in the PC?

Audio properties, then look under the advanced tab.
If I connected to my laptops 'line-in' at the moment I'd hear nothing because it's muted (see screen shot below)

thanks alot TL5. I've checked all the setting and the line-in is set at maximum volume but the sound from the amp is lower than I directly listened from the amp through earphone... I guess maybe the soundcard is not good enough...

Your PC speakers won't be able to make a sound like an amp, no matter what you do. It's not the sound card, it's just that your average computer speakers without a sub push 5 watts or so and aren't made to make a lot of bass anyway. Even with a sub you're only getting 20 to 50 watts (for a small system), and that's still going through speakers that aren't meant to produce the frequencies you need en masse. I could see a fancier system doing an OK job, but it's still not optimized to put out the sound you expect.
