Peavey Fury....is this worth it?

For me, the value in old Furies is in the neck. I think the necks on these instruments feel particularly great. I've had a couple of them and still have one that I play a lot. They are, as someone noted, fairly light weight. Mine is bone stock except for straplocks and a set of Barts. I can't think what a Fender (American, Mexican, or otherwise) could do better. I've got a number of Fenders as well. (They are generally not shielded either.)

The Peavey is great for what it is, bang for your buck, but I think once you are paying Fender Standard prices your money is much better spent on a Fender Standard. I paid $80 for my Fury and I feel that is an appropriate price on the low end on the scale.

Necks are bigger, but straight. I love the would take a USA Peavey over Squier any day- love the super ferrite. However, $400 seems high- see many in the 250/300 range.

Dead thread, sorry... but for anyone asking about this bass guitar, buy one. And tinker with it. I have a P-style, maple neck/fretboard, and cut in a Peavey super ferrite bridge pickup, wired in series with the original offset neck pickup, no volume controls just a tone control with old paper-in-oil capacitor, DR nickel strings... holy crap. what a midrange BALLER. plug into a MESA 400+ tube amp, crank it to 11 and creme your pants. I'd pay 600 for one in today's economy

Boy how things have changed in the 8 years since this post was started.
I just bought one online for 350 and it's about as near "mint" as you can find. I paid $300 for the bass, $21 shipping and $28 tax (unbelievable).
The ones that are 8 out of 10 and up are getting harder and harder to find. Un-hacked ones are equally hard to find. I see them in the 400-500 range usually (8 and above of course) for the last 2 to 3 years. Really good instruments, sure there are better higher-end instruments out there, but for 300-400 you can't beat these old furys.
