I just got back from a rockin loud gig with a smokin hot 15 yr old guitar slinger that's just tearin it up playing singing and writing. The MM got compliments from the drummer another bass player and the sax player! I'm glad to have it back. I missed its weighty punch.
Nice, I hear that. After a rather long hibernation, I pulled the mM out today and plugged into it. It instantly reminded me of who’s boss with that absolutely slamming power section. The headroom on this amp is absolutely unreal....it flat pounds.
I think I'm going to start using my MM with my two 1x15 8-ohm K140 cabs. Since the MM output jacks are in parallel, that's potentially WAY too much for the JBL's, so careful knob-setting is in order. OR: I could wire the cabs in series (thru a junction box of some sort) to get 16 ohms and less destructive capability. Does anyone know what a MiniMega can deliver to a 16 ohm load?
I'm not expert, but I thought SS amps can do higher ohm loads, but at decreased watts. The mega is already 500 watts (I think) at 8ohms, so even less at 16. You could probably find something fairly inexpensive if you're looking for around 200-250 watts, and a smaller footprint, and not have to rewire your cabs.
The MiniMega is 1000 watts at 4 Ohms, 700 at 8. I wouldnt be surprised if its between 400-500 at 16 Ohms. More than enough power to drive your speakers to their limits regardless of how you wire them.
Have peavey fixed the reliaility issues? The peavey mega would be my backup/ I need more headroom amp
I wonder how we can get more specific info on this. I was set on buying a MiniMEGA, but I'm a bit leery now.
It's tough to get useful info. When people complain that something broke, you don't know how they treat their equipment or if there are hundreds of happy owners who don't share their experience. Yes there were some issues with the earliest production. The issues were fixed long ago. Peavey has comparable build quality to the other manufacturers in the price range. A new amp comes with a warranty. If you are worried about reliability, you can carry a spare, get a nice protective amp case, get a better-built (more expensive) amp (or all three).

I understand and agree with everything you said. And I know the complaints on the microcosm Talkbass are not proportionately representative of the whole picture. But we're talking about multiple reports of the same (or similar) problem(s) - a shutdown or a lack of fire-up every time.
There are often bugs in the first run of new products. Often, these are corrected and the fix publicized by the manufacturer, dealers or trade magazines.
With one or more of Carvin's amps it was the ribbon issue. With Acme cabinets there was an impedance problem, but only when with certain amps. With one of the Ampeg models, it was something else.
I always carry a spare. And I always am aware of proper impedance loads and adequate ventilation. I know that a 100% guarantee that equipment won't fail is an impossibility. What I would like to know is whether there was a design flaw in the miniMEGA that has been corrected or if there were malfunctions limited to a certain "batch".

With every Class D head Ive owned, I have had problems...except the Fender Rumble, and so far, the MiniMega, both of which I love.
Funny thing is, I do carry a backup head in my truck at all times...its a Behringer BX4500H and it has never had a hiccup in over 15 years

Hmm, I have what I guess is an early model of MM 1K, bought it new about 1.5-2 years ago. I think I recall reading some had issues with models after I'd bought mine. Guitar buddy bought one after me for his studio and he said it went down on him so he returned it and bought another brand.
I've not had any issues with mine but I don't gig it alot and hardly at high or even med-high volumes. It gets used with a 112 or 210 at restaurant gigs. And last few gigs I've taken my GK MB800 or TC-E BH550, just cause they are even smaller and lighter to lug around. But I have a new, louder blues-rock band audition in two weeks. Plan to take the MM- 1K and Barefaced Big Twin T to that tryout. As always, the GK MB800 stays in a laptop bag under front seat of my SUV; just in case.

I realize this post is from last year and I've not been very active on TB but off n on. Nice to see the PV-MM1K conversation moving. But sorry to hear some had/have issues with theirs.
I've always liked mine but I do use my fDeck HPF as Bobby said they did not want to have a HPF in this amp as built. I only gig 5 string active basses with little if any PA support, so I just play it safe with the HPF box.
As to the series/parallel thing, I had one of those small boxes built for me locally quite a few years ago. I used it with two 4 ohm cabs with my GB 9.2 amp head. But stopped using it pretty quick as I soon bought the GB 12.0 head to run those two cabs.
@kartiste, can't see your location but if you're within reasonable ship area to TX, PM me if you're interested. Sorry not trying to skirt TB for sale/trade rules here. I will be a support member again soon as I have alotta gear to move out this year. And again, @kartiste if you can try out a GK MB800 or Mesa Subway 800, those get alot of play on here. I've not tried the Mesa head...yet. But the MB800 is, small, light, reliable and at times it seems to my ears, louder, bigger sounding than my MM-1K.

@ErnieD, Yes, I might be interested in that box. It would need to have Speakons in and out. As far as the MM, I leave it on all day long around the house, playing off and on. No problems. I've also put a Faital 15FH520 in one of my boxes, and I'm itching to drive it hard with the MM, but I've run into a gig desert. Would do the same with 2xK140 and a series box. Until I have the MM fail, I'm sticking with it. I do carry a spare head.

My amp has seen around 200 gigs, pushed hard and loud. It failed and they fixed it promptly. End of conversation. It came home and I pounded it some more. A few months after I got it back It fell about four feet onto cement in its rolling padded Laptop bag. It been months since that happened and it functions fine. While I may have my gas/eyes on other amps in the future I’m very happy with it. I have a Genz Shuttle 6.0 in the truck as back up and the Shuttlemax 12.0 is home lonely waiting for a date.
I like that this amp is pretty flat with all knobs at 12 per the Tom Bowlus review in BG. I like the sound/tone as is and usually just eq for the room. The eq is powerful, but I do most of my eqing from the Bass. The power sections hammers harder than any SS Bass amp I’ve ever owned with the most heft too. There’s a weight to the notes I don’t hear on my Shuttlemax. I feel like I can effortlessly really punch out accents simply using right hand technique. It’s a great feeling of power and control. Oh yea!
