Funny, I fired up the MM after not using it for several months, and couldn't get a tone I really loved, with 3 different basses. I've been using mostly my D800, also have a SuperBassman, and a Traynor DynaBass 115 combo that's provided at our jam space. Funny because I remember absolutely loving it, and it being super punchy, but I couldn't get that last night. Got some more knob twirling to do, maybe try a different cab.

Peavey MiniMega 1000

I have spent a good deal of time with my MM and have come to the conclusion it is a good amp. It doesn't stand out to me as amazing, but certainly not bad. Has good power and the tone is very useable. My concerns with it, that are not bad enough to have flipped it, are;
1. Do not like the air vents only on top, I like to put small pedal boards there a lot.
2. The control panel for my old eyes is not simple or clear enough for on the fly changes during a gig situation. I need it to be KISS during a show.
3. For some reason all the led lights just make me think about durability - seems too electronic and I really prefer simple analog like adjustments
For now mine lives at one of the practice spaces.

I still dig the minimega and the MiniMax. I like the max so much I bought another. Best bang for buck amp period and def super easy controls for keeping it simple. And it has a tuner.

Something I noticed last night is that the bass and strings makes more of a difference than I thought. I have both a passive and active Fender PJ bass. The active bass with roundwound strings was hard to dial in so I snatched up the cheaper passive bass with new EB P02813 Hybrid Slinky Flatwounds on it and the difference was immediately noticeable with a thumpier old time bass sound I was searching for or closer to it. Got a spare set I may throw on the active bass and see where that gets me!

Not blowing a fuse, but constantly would shut down for about a minute or two before restarting. I sent it back to Peavey for repair under the warranty. Peavey repaired it claiming they updated the unit. Not sure what that update entailed but so far the problem has not returned. I suspect it was definitely a thermal issue for sure.
The first two days I had mine, I left in on for 48 hours, playing it for an hour at a time, throughout that time. No issues, and it didn't appear to be too warm at all. The fan is constantly on, so maybe that had something to do with it.
I had to send mine back for a completely dif prob. It never shut down, but the lights went out and all of the bottom button row functions quit working. I got it back with an "update" as well. It's been working fine since, but my faith is a little rocky. My miniMax has been solid and the funny thing is, it seems to be just as loud. I'm kind of liking it better. Peavey's customer service is good though. I had it back in 2 weeks and I was only out the shipping there.

I brought my minimega out on 3 local dates this week... One gig running running at 8 ohms. .two other gigs at 4 ohms.. Outside and in the sun. .It was moving air... and sounded Great.. no issues..
Its really a very good sounding amp and goes down DEEP without being muddy ..
When playing at lower levels i use the PUNCH button.. But when playing loud i just run it almost flat ( as per BGM settings) or so.. It is a beast and reminds me very much of a separate Preamp/ poweramp type rig.. .

Had to send mine to Peavey for warranty work. It was making high pitched, squealing noises, no matter what cab or bass or cable I used. Peavey was quick with the turnaround. They said they re-soldered some connections, and performed the " latest updates ". Too bad, I was hoping I got one of the good ones, but now I'll never trust it fully again. Back up status for me.
Somebody put their Minimega in a rack ? I wonder how I can do that...Peavey doesn't have a rackmount kit,so...how would you do ?

I'd find a rack shelf and drill holes that line up with the screws for the feet. Take the feet off, and find some rubber washers. Then screw it back down to the shelf.Somebody put their Minimega in a rack ? I wonder how I can do that...Peavey doesn't have a rackmount kit,so...how would you do ?

I bought a 1 space rack Shelf. .t has many HOLES pre drilled. BUT for my MiniMega. I picked up some Industrial VELCRO from HOme depot... Put it on the rack and the Minimega.. I need a wedge if i wanted to try to remove the amp from the rack. It will NOT come free unless i realy work at it... Its been on a few mini tour dates just like that and it is still as sturdy

The Mini Mega is PHAT sounding.. And Tight too. It is as potent as a preamp/ Power amp rig.. With the right cab, it is a beast.. I've been using my genz Uber 115 or Genzler MG212.. It moves air.. Really is an incredible amp... I like teh fullness down low... I would love to hear what this would be like on a super cab . like a fearful, fearless or AK
+1 on Peavey Service - I play thru an IPR power amp (1st series), and it went south on me years ago - they fixed it in no time flat and it's run like a champ since.
Seems like second time's the charm on their product releases...

Another thing that i like about the MiniMega are the COMBO speaker jacks on the rear.. They take 1/4" and speak on.. I had a speakon cable go south on me last week. I was able to use a 1/4" speaker cable.. whewwww..

I thought Peavey also made the Trace Elliot Stuff... I went to the Trace site and they don't make their big dog amps anymore. So it seems.. 
Id still LOVE to try that little green amp that Trace has for some smaller gigs ...

Yes, Peavey owns Trace Elliot, and yes, the new Trace Elliot gear is really cool. I do expect some more powerful gear from them hopefully in the not-too-distant future.
If you ever get to whisper in their ear, I think a micro with the minimega power section without all the bells and whistles would be sweet.
