Peavey MiniMega 1000

With a ton of grunt. Perhaps you should try the Bamp, I would if I had the dough. Haha also look at Trickfish and Genzler, but then you're in the price range of the Bergs.

I've been through lots of amps and finally settled on the Carvin because it DID give me precisely what I was looking for. A/Bing the Carvin with the Peavey made me really grateful the Carvin is fixed. It's tough to say what amps are "voiced" or give the true bass sound because I have nothing to really measure it by. Set flat though, the Carvin gives me the starting point I'm happiest working from. It's clean and natural sounding, and then I can dial in whatever EQ I want. I really do believe there was something wonky going on with my Peavey, but it works out in the end for me anyhow. I would have kept both if not, and I don't need both. I have my Carvin, my TC in my glove compartment for a backup (which works excellently), and I almost forgot I have a GK Backline in storage. As well as a Carvin 250 watt 10" combo that can handle pretty much any gig if I throw one of my 15s on it.

I think the universe was with me on this one.

And I'm glad that most people are happy with their Peaveys. I am a big Peavey fan. Bla, bla, bla.... :). I should probably get outta this thread now.

Indeed you have exceeded the amount of times you can say Carvin in a peavey thread :) I can only speak for the smaller minimax but when comparing it directly to my existing amps was the time I was least impressed by the tone. In the mix it sits as good if not better than the transistor/ valve amps I own. The main thing is your satisfied and some lucky person gets to snap up your Peavey as repaired B Grade Stock. ;)

Boy, I’m a little sad this amp is getting so little love. I’m still digging this amp. I have put another 100 gigs on it since I last posted. That works out to something like 300 hours of real playing time at mostly higher volume levels. It has been a workhorse. If you are like some of the above posters that like a more voiced amp then this may not be for you. On the other hand if you like a more neutral voiced amp with a butt load of power and headroom at a price generally less than the competition, you really should give it listen. And I have never been a Peavey fanboy. (For reference) An Ampeg PF500 and Carvin BX500 have come and gone in the last few years. I’ve kept my two Genz Benz amps, 6.0 and 12.0. This amp punches harder than any of them. Including the 12.0 I feel it’s got more headroom when I really dig in, and I go from a very light touch to very heavy. It feels more responsive to dynamic changes in picking attack. It’s easy to find any number of different tones and sounds on this amp.
I run everything generally flat which is 12 o’clock on this amp. Sometimes I add more bass or eq for the room but I rarely need much. The parametric mids are also a powerful tool. I still don’t use much of anything onboard except a little comp and the punch button which is a low mid boost. (I have a pedalboard for effects) Or you can just eq a bump wherever you want one. I feel like it has a little bit of warmish tube type tone going on. I hear no woolineess but not sterile clean either. Hey @golfnsubie, are you still using yours?
Oh and the fan noise, I don’t know I never play it that quietly and I don’t use a 1000 watt for practice, I have too many small amps for that.
Frankly I’m shocked there hasn’t been a single post here in over 6 months. I’d hate see Peavey give up on this platform. Keep an open mind, give this amp a try some time.

OK, I'll help with your thread bump...I was watching it and reading while looking for my new head. Got one and I really like it as well. It does behave a little different than my past amps as far as EQ and I also run it pretty neutral, which I wouldn't normally do and sounds really nice. My band mates made the comment that "the individual sound qualities of my different basses are far more noticeable." I.e., it doesn't have a baked in sound. I'm not a big pedal head and use a Tech 21 Bass Compactor and a BBE Sonic Stomp if I even bring something along at all. Really happy with the power, sound, and portability of the mini mega!

I have one and i LOVE IT. .It is a workhorse. Glorious deep lows with clarity.. The only thing i dont like is that the FAN vents are on top. It keeps me from putting my ipad ro setlist on top.
But totally its is a wide open pallette. With a lot of clean headroom .

So here’s a brief tale from last nights gig. We were playing a little joint at the beach that I play about once a year and I’ve set up in different places, so, used a couple of different outlets. Last night was the first time while I was using the MM it had cut in and out while I was playing. After the second or third time it did it in less than a minute, I said we have to stop I’ll go get my back up amp. I ran to the car brought in my trusty little Genz Benz 6.0 and plugged it in, I was surprised by a big difference power wise. ( read: not enough juice) Great amp but not ideal on this gig. I was surprised but after a bit the Genz had some brief shorting as well. So now I am thinking it can’t be both amps going down. I instantly suspected the electricity. I hadn’t had this problem there before in several gigs but I told the guys to hold on again. I unplug my power cord from the outlet I was in and plugged it in 10 feet away voilà no problem what a relief. I was reminded how important it is the have a backup plan. I could have finished the gig just fine with GB. I was probably the only one who noticed the discrepancy in headroom and power. But it was VERY evident to me. I’ve been carrying two basses to gigs for about 30 yrs. Two amps for only 10 but it’s saved me a couple of times. Once used for a guitar amp that went down.

If you have that low of a voltage that the Shuttle's protection circuit shut it down, the amp would have been producing only about 1/2 of its rated power. I don't think the comparison is as valid as you think it is.

Personally, I love my MiniMega other than the top-mounted fan and the fact that it is a little bulky compared with some other D's. It's got power like crazy and you can pretty much make it sound like anything. It's my favorite for gigs, but too powerful my weekly jam where any number of people might touch my amp. It's kind of silly, but I confess that I love the multi-colored light show.

The protection circuitry protects the amp against gross power faults that might otherwise endanger the amp. It's a big part of the reliability equation.

And that reliability, and that commitment to quality my friend, is why you deservedly receive praise and respect from this community.
My personal experience with products you’ve had a hand in has been nothing but exemplary.
My little experience the other night has inspired me to try to flip the 6.0 an a bass to try and finagle a new S800+. Then I’d have a triumvirate of awesome with the GB12.0, MM1000, & S880+ for the win!!! Damn it now I can’t stop thinking about how I can make this happen.

Oops back to the MM, haha. Gig last night, one of my regular bass buddies sat in with a newly remodeled bass and raved about the tone through my MM/ Berg rig, it did sound very good.
I played a bigger club on fri. Nite. The sound guy came up and asked what I was using and said it sound killer and huge. He said those 2 (EX)112s are all your using? I said yup that and a 1000 watt amp. He really dug it and said it sounded great. Haha I already knew that.

Alright, brothers and sisters! Just took a giant leap and ordered the mM1000 AND 2 PVH212. I work hard and it sounds like the rig for me. I've not seen many comments from people with BOTH the head and cabs...I am willing to try them out. I'll keep the forum posted when I have it all together! I feel like luck isn't part of this, so wish me FUN!

Having fun for me, includes sounding good to my ears. So the amp/speaker combination that is pleasing to my ear is essential to that end. I will say I’ve never personally owned any Peavey bass cabs so I can’t speak to that part of the equation at all. I’m curious to know what cabs you have been using? I would also like to hear how they (Peavey) stack up too what you’ve been using previously. So I would love to hear a comparison between your old cabs and the new ones.

For many years I've used a pair of custom built 1x15s (JBL) crafted by a friend that has built speakers for a very long time. They served the purpose of being incredibly road worthy and plenty loud (high volume band). I also used an ancient ampeg 4x12 with a Sunn ModelT head and currently have some 1st gen acoustic (GC brand) stuff that has got me through some dark times. I still have all the darkness, but the money is much better and my lovely wife is extra supportive. For sure I will put my honest reviews of the gear once it's been gone through...I am fairly confident it'll suit me just great~
