Peavey MiniMega 1000

I haven't had any problems. Had it I guess close to 2 years.
When I first got it, I thought I should be getting more volume, but Ive found d that I was too shy with the gain knob.
Coming from a genz .2 model, I was used to more gain=distortion. The gain in the MM doesn't have this effect. I would have the gain around 10 to 12, and it just wouldn't cut it. Now I use it at 2-3, and no complaints.
Haven't noticed the fan, but I only use it during rehearsal or gigs.
Haven't heard any high pitch sounds from light changes (as an aside, my lights only change when the mute is engaged on the amp.).
No problems cutting out.
I'm using 12/6/1+12sub usually.
No complaints.

Inadequate AC power will make all amps sound crappy, even old tube Fenders. Been there, done that.
Brand new building brand new studio. I'm hesitant to believe that's the issue. Guitar is using a 100 watt Marshall through a power soak then pushing that out of a 50 watt Marshall half stack. I think, I haven't really paid attention, but he doesn't seem to be having a problem.

I'm not trying to rock the boat, I just want to know why I can't be heard.

Roger that. My mindset is that of a retired MI gear repair tech and FOH mixer deWd at the club level, so I'm mostly just interested in facts and results.

Given an older cab and a newer one, the first thing I'd test for is correct polarity matching -- per cab and then between both cabs as well.

I'll give that a try, I too wanted a clean sound, not overdriven, the pickups in that Tbird are pretty hot as it is.

The pre in my Tune is hot as heck and I don’t have a problem with distortion whatsoever. I use a pedal for dirt. I usually run gain 9-10 and master around 11 or noon. That can get very loud. I’ve been using the MM for nearly 2 yrs. I had a failure and had the warrantee service and it’s been fine ever since. I have probably 60-80 gigs since with no hiccups. I felt a little nervous the first couple of gigs after the service but quickly forgot about it and while I carry a GB S6.0 as backup anyway I don’t worry. I really like it better than any of my amps, and as Husky said, it really is a sledgehammer. Almost Every bass player that plays my rig on my jam loves it. I got compliments last night again from a guy that’s played it lots of times and he still comments how much he likes it and he’s a GK guy. As TB above has stated when they had it on the bench controls are all fairly flat at noon. I know their bench test couldn’t confirm all the power claims. My experience on the gig says it the hardest hitting power section I’ve ever owned. I use Bergs and F12/6/1 most recently.

Then there's something wrong with mine because those settings I use with my friends from church, in their basement. There is no way my amp, at those settings could ever be considered loud. We're talking bedroom practice levels. No lie

Can you use a 2 or 3 button footswitch with this, or do you have to use the Peavey 5? I have footswitches, and don't need all 5 :). Like, are they assignable or something?
It's a MIDI footswitch, and it is programmable. Default is on/off for crunch, compressor, kosmos, efx loop, and mute. Per the manual, you could substitute punch, lo narrow Q, hi narrow Q or bright on any button. But I don't know how to do it.

I see Joe here . Hi Joe.
I come here for answers too. I have a MM, had it for two years and maybe I'm doing something wrong:
Last weeks rehearsal, acoustic drums, heavy hitter. One guitar, 50 watt half stack. Epiphone Tbird Classic Pro through Ampeg SCR-DI into the mini- mega and out to two Hartke Hydrive 4x10's. Gain is at noon volume at 3 and it's barely keeping up and clearly was cutting out.
Opinions? Cause I gave Joe a negative review earlier and if I'm wrong I'd like to know.
Must be something wrong with the unit Mike. I have a Mini max that is half the power and keeps up with two half stacks in a heavy band with ease.....though I have also heard they are much more sensitive to power supply. But think you have a dud.:(

Hey Mike, just box it up and give them a call. My turnaround was faster than one other TBer. But about 2 wks. All you need to do is put a written description in with the amp. I even forgot to do that and they just fixed and returned. I never got a detailed description of the repair. Pretty painless I'd say.

Ps, you pay to send it in, they pay return post.

What is your volume setting on the SCR-DI ?

Good question wizard. Hey Mike, plug your bass straight in no efx. Tell us what happens.
@Joe Nerve i don't know if a generic pedal will work or not. I had a Line6 midi pedal that would not work. I didn't get theirs. I wouldn't use it enough to justify the trouble. I leave the comp on low all the time. Punch is on most of the time especially loud gigs for extra hefty oomph. And I don't care much for disto at all and the sub knobs I can't really find a use for yet. It's definitely not a useful octave divider, for me. But I've experimented with some success at low vol settings. To fatten up everything. But something I would use is the EQ pedal patches. I didn't even know it would do that haha I just skimmed the manual and took it to work.

It's over two years old at this point, and although the problem has been happening for some time it was so random I never linked it all together.
So tonite I'm at the studio, again. So I upping my gain setting it around 3 o'clock, are you guys running flat eq's.? We'll see.

If it was something I said that pushed you over the edge...........Hope ya don't hate me if you you don't like it, Joe! Ha It seems they're readily available around $500, so at that price point I don't see how you have much to lose trying one.
The one I bought a little less than couple of years ago was an open box, full warrantee. I paid $425! How could I pass? So even if it fails again I like it enough to work with it until I can afford the big dog amps I'm looking at trying.
It's a big leap from $500 to $1000 for me and I'm sure many others. So, as much as I'd like to get a Bamp, I'm content with my MM and Shuttlemax. Actually this is the best sounding gear I've had in my life. Playing professionally for 50 yrs. also, I use Bergantino cabs. And a F12/6/1 currently.

Nope, you're in the clear .

This one is completely on @Nighttrain1127 for making me aware of it, and Jesse Wood who I never heard of before, for driving it home with this:

Them there 2 guys were all that were needed to fill me with intolerable GAS for which there was only one cure :). A 15% off coupon from my salesperson at MF was like a bottle of Rolaids I needed, only to speed things up.

Now, if my super friendly phone calling dude from that sweet shop with the candy in their boxes did that from time to time, instead of just calling me on the phone when I don't want their calls - well then they'd have my business.

And a CRAP LOAD of free endorsements here on Talkbass.

Musiciansfriend gets my endorsement every time.

Oh yeah, including the Backstage Pass discount, the final price of mine, brand new, was $462.

Killer price! Yea this is a lot of amp for the $$$$. And glad I'm off the hook.
That's an informative vid. Unfortunately it doesn't give any sense of how much butt his amp kicks. Through 2 little Bergantino ceramic EX112's this thing will absolutely pound. Even though the Bass Gear (Tom Bowlus) review could not verify total power, this thing has so much under the hood it's empowering. I can just dig in and POW punch you in the face with bass. Get'cha sum ah dat!

I have one.
There's a ton of love for this from me.
My GB STM 900, blue light working, backup has been in mothballs for more than a year.

.......don't get me started.....

THIS amp....

Reliable.
Dial-able.
Smile-able.

....testicular low-end frequency movement, wif da beat....

Three thumbs up on this one.
