Peavey Scorpion Plus 15” question

Hey guys, got this old junker cab for bigger shows. Opened it up and realized its actually loaded with two scorpion plus speakers and not the black widows i expected. Before taking it back i decided to plug in and listen to it and honestly it sounds great at moderate volumes. Very full and clear mids.

Anyway, i wont be returning the cab but does anyone now the wattage rating on these scorpions and if they are in fact bass speakers? They sound like they are for bass but i know nothing about them.

Ill be running a walkabout so the wattage per speaker is about 150 watts each.

I have an old Peavey 2x15 on the way that I got cheap off ebay. In the pic the speakers looked like the edges (as seen from the front) were squared off instead of round. I've seen those before in lots of Peavey cabs but I don't know what they are. I've had Black Widows before and they all were round. Probably going to swap them out regardless.

I doubt this thing is tuned for it, but at that moderate/low volume i really like them. Should be a nice match for the walkabout i think.

Im assuming they are lighter than black widows? This cab is actually easy enough to move around surprisingly.

Much lighter.

Peavey was a little ahead of the times when it came down to cabinet tuning...

Back in my first band in the 80s I had a Peavey cab very much like that with two Scorpions in it. Bought it used at a small music shop. I thought it sounded alright back then. Years later when I started gigging again, I wished I had never sold it. 80s Peavey gear is good stuff generally, but of course we didn't know how good we had it until later.

A few years ago at church, I put together a stage monitoring rig for our drummer, who used an electric kit. I built two small mic stand mounted monitors with a 4" Pioneer speaker and a tweeter. The kick monitor was a wedge with a 15" Peavey Scorpion. All was driven with a biamped 125 watt per channel, 3 channel power amp. This gave him a stereo monitor with the bass sub, crossed over at 25

Wow that thing is awesome! This thing was pretty cheap but I'm noticing that its well built and pretty underrated for what it is IMO.

To me it looks likes an 1810. The 1820s are taller, same components but taller. I had two of them, now just one left.

@DJ Bebop Lolll..ive had this argument with Peavey amp owners before but when shown the plaque on the rear of the cab always settles the argument loll..its an 1820

Maybe it's a thing they did for the Australian market or it was a new crossover from the new run of the new 1820s. My 1820, the tall, one had the same crossover. Both used the same components. The taller 1820s had more space for the 18 👍 😊

I never thought of that Aussie market thing before..quite possible as we do get odd stuff happening here a lot...example...we got the Fender Rumble line of IVORY coloured amps before the USA did.
My wife keeps saying to me why do you keep popping up on the computer..you told me an hour ago you were going to sleep at 5am...lol..we are night owls and its before my bedtime i said...its not 6am yet lolll
