here's my FL, wanting to add a fretted 20 someday, but a solution to the single coil hum is needed...

they really do have THE P sound, or at least the best P sound I've found
Sweet - yeah I've tried some P basses (and a Rick) but come back to my original T-20 - love the pickup and neck and tone for me splits that P/Rick gamut-
What's the going market rate for a T-20 in good condition these days? Just asking for a friend...
I'm always amazed that no other designer took that pickup ring with the built-in thumbrest idea and ran with it. An ingenious add-on for something a lot of us do, anchoring a thumb on the pickup shell.

I picked up a satin sunburst T-20 a year and a half ago and absolutely love the tone! I have one nit-picky problem, the E string is a bit weaker sounding than the rest of the strings. I can see that the blade of the pickup ends directly under the center of the e-string so when I pluck upwards I'm pulling the string away from the end of the blade getting a somewhat weaker signal. If I pluck downward with my thumb (pulling the string into the blade) I get a normal signal. Have any of you experienced this? If so, how have you found a solution?

VERY nice! You just gotta love the grain on these "natural" ash-bodied T-Series Peaveys!

Yeah, I love the way they look. It belonged to a friend of mine who bought it used for our band during high school in the mid 90's. He only tried learning the bass for a few months and I ended up with it. But until a year ago it was in pretty rough shape mostly staying in its case. I started playing bass in a couple bands, (was mostly a guitar player before) and got it set up real nice. Honestly, I haven't played a bass that felt as good except maybe a friends 70's P bass (I also haven't played a ton of basses tho).
That Fury is very similar. I've never seen one of those. Also, looks like you have a T-40. How do those compare with the T-20? very different I'd imagine...
That Kustom amp belongs to a band mate. He has good stuff and doesn't mind me using his amps. I've used that a few times, and usually it'll be a Sunn 200 or 2000s.
In this great carnival of T-Series Peaveys, I would rate the T-20 as a solid, traditional Merry-Go-Round and the T-40 as an adrenaline-pumping (and back-breaking!) Giant Wooden Roller-Coaster! I realize that's not a very musical analogy, but the difference is MUCH more profound than say between a Fender P & a Jazz. The T-40 is SO much more versatile tonally than a Jazz.
I believe a T-20 can thump toe-to-toe with a Precision, and often better! But you can spend hours with a T-40 playing with the settings and come up with SO many different attacks. It's a whole 'nother level! I love these basses and have been lucky enough to have also acquired some T-45s and Patriots along the way. I truly believe that this whole series of USA-made Peaveys compare quite well to ANY of the other basses made during this period, and hold up quite well today.
