Yeah. I guess I won't know any thing till I take the beast apart. I have been debating on getting a soldering iron for a bit now. I guess its time to do it now.
here's my t40 with an EGC neck. the thing sounds amazing but hefty hahaha. i play 20 min sets anyways so i think im ok.btw where can i get new pots for it? it's pretty scratchy, i'll try contact cleaner first but just in case i need it. you guys know where i can buy em?
Get yourself a Leather Levy's padded 3.5" strap and your bass drops by a couple pounds.
Welp. I might need some help finding a replacement for my T-40s neck pickup. I checked the wiring to see if it’s something simple but I couldn’t find anything wrong so I took it to my local repair guy to see what he has to say. He’s not hopeful that it can be fixed so I’m starting the search for a new blade pickup. If you guys see one pop up for sale shoot me a PM.

I'm really curious about the aluminum necks that EGC and Robot Graves make, and whether the price would actually be worth it. What's your experience been like with it? Does it make enough of a difference to justify the weight and expense?
How about setup and maintability - does it hold setup well? And what degree of adjustment do you have with this neck? I've always wondered whether you're stuck with standard tuning and particular string guages with alumunim instruments.
I've owned this bass for about 8 months, but I'm just getting around to posting it now. It's a 1982, to replace my stolen white/maple 1980. It's a bit heavier than my white one, but not too bad for a T-40 at around 10 pounds.
The electronics have been modified in it as well, It now looks like this:
- Volume knobs and pickup selector are unchanged.
- Tone knobs, instead of switching from single coils to humbuckers at 7, are now push/pull pots. This lets me get humbucker tones with 100% tone and single coil tones with less than 70% tone - both of which are impossible to get with the original configuration.
- Phase switch (which I literally never used) now switches the pickups between series and parallel wiring.
Only if you expect to be able to resell it as an intact vintage instrument. There are still a lot of T-40s around in fantastic shape, so you won't be disrupting the historical record if you modify yours.
At this point there’s still quite a few T-40s floating around so it’s not like you’d be destroying some unobtainable thing. However... you could get a luthier to make you a drop-in fretleas T-40 duplicate neck for less than the cost of a T-40. And the t-40 neck is not the strongest point of the bass anyway - the two piece design is prone to warping over time, especially in the lower frets. Overall it may be worth looking into!
Thanks! since i got the t40 for a really good price, the neck cost with the bass isnt that bank breaking. i really like this set up. the neck adds to the overall tone, in my ears it sounds crispier. the neck straight and will never bend so you just adjust the saddles.
the only problem i had with this was when i played a show with it, i can barely see the dots on the side. i glance alot to the neck when im playing and stage lights reflect to it. i guess i really have to learn to play without looking hahaha

Brought my T40 out for the first time to a gig, it was an Octoberfest party outdoors. Strung with Chrome flats. I played with some folks I had never played with before, the guitar players were pretty good but the drummer was great, and the Peavey sounded HUGE. We played some originals (think G. Love and Special Sauce) and some blues and country covers, and man, when I locked in with the drummer, there is no better drug out there. I had a Mesa Boogie D800 and a single Baer ML112 and it was enough, but I wish I had brought the other 112. Playing outdoors always makes me regret not bringing a bigger rig.

Here's my new addition. I am a T-40 newbie, but I'm super impressed. Only 10lbs. The tonal possibilities are nuts, more than any other instrument I've owned. 1979 t-40 white/rosewood.!

My first T-40 was a white/RW one as well. IIRC, it is about 10.5 pounds. I still have it and love what it can do!

Congrats. My current T40 is 10.1lbs. Pictured is my first T40 and was the lightest i have owned. I stupidly sold it. 
Hey folks. So..... I have three T-40s: a light 10.5 pound white w/ RW and blade pickups, an early heavier natural w/ maple and toaster pickups, and a 3 tone burst with RW and blades.
I need to sell one! Which one would fetch the most coin?
