If you're going to replace it for pete's sake don't buy one from ebay, you'll get the same switch at an auto spares shop for $2. If I can find the order receipt I'll post a link.

It's amazing to me the number of originals that have survived when you add T-60s to the T-40s that have the small paddle handle.
actually, looks like they did some rewiring
when the switch was replaced cuz the controls
don't work as described in the owner's manual.
have to fiddle with the new 3-way switch to get
sound on both pickups. and the phaser operation
seems to have been changed. but it sounds fantastic!

Much as I'd like to deny it, my T-40 is not really a great bass for the kind of 3+ hour country gigs that I usually play these days. Even if I split it with another bass, it either leaves my back/neck tired after one set set or is just to heavy to want to end the night with.
However, this week we had an hour and a quarter gig at the "Montrose Saloon". Kind of a throw-away chance to play in my town (usually we play south of Chicago) without much $ on the table but it's a nice little bar with regulars who seem to appreciate country.. So with only an hour and change to play, I brought the T-40.
This mediocre pic is the only proof, and mostly it's hidden behind the tablet, but here it is...

Many a great country track's been recorded with a T-40! Bet it sounded sweet.
It's a nice little place and the audience really was primed for country. I hope we get to play there again.
Indeed! I recorded 4 country tracks with it just a month ago.
I've gradually worked all but two 34" basses out of my arsenal. One is my much-modded MIM P-bass because it is a P-bass (gotta have one) and my first bass (sentimental). The other is my T-40 and while I would probably still keep it just because it's so great, it definitely earns it's keep on the rare occasion I get to do some recording and the occasional short gig. It's just a really great sounding bass.

Just thought I’d show my love for the T-40.
I need to get mine dialed in, it farts out at low volume unlike other basses. Thinking about restoring the red wire mod while I'm at it.
Not sure about a passive bass "farting out". There is nothing you could "fix" other than maybe pickup height and that would be better handled with a pad at the input of your amp.
Not sure if one of the springs gave up the ghost and the pickup is moving, sounded great the last time I got it out. Oh I have some incredibly hot passive pickups in a couple of my basses, I can drive a cab or two. Just thought it sounded way off, which it does.
Adding a second cab sounded better, the Labellas don’t like the tone rolled down much. Kept the lo mid flat and added a little treble. The farting was the pickup being to close and the strings not liking the tone knob. Easy fixes. Might still restore the red wire this weekend.
I got a new project starting and I decided that I was going to use the T-40 for it. It did really well but I found out I’m having issues with the neck pick up. It has completely cut out. However I am able to get sound back when I press the metal pick up cover down in the area between the two toaster slots. I can feel the cover sticking to something for a moment and the sound comes back but then it unsticks and I lose out put.
Any ideas?
