So I have been having fun today playing through my set up (while on short breaks from my desk) with this cheap a$$ Hofner copy by Tokai that I bought last year in a music store liquidation for just around $150. My goal had been to change the pickups but the styley ones I liked were more than the bass. Admittedly the stock ones sound pretty damn good right now!

Man that thing sounds AWESOME through my board. Tokai/green muff is heaven. Just everything sounds really good. Surprisingly little feedback for a hollow body. Great little bass - psyched I have it. Makes me GAS for a real vintage Hofner though...

A few further comments on the board and stuff I picked up last week:

- The Spacerocket is a cool fuzz. I really like the three fuzzes it has on tap and it plays nicely with other pedals - stacks well. I think I like the position switch far right, but haven't really played with it enough.

BUT

- whenever I clicked on the Sputnik, it just wasn't fair. Man, with no buffer before it, the SPutnik is just magic. I would really encourage anyone who might want one, to get one now while they are still kinda available.

The thing that amazes me about the Sputnik vs ANY other fuzz I have, is that it is actualLy rather transparent. It can get as mean as any fuzz I own, but the basic character of your bass is still right there. Aamazingly quiet as well. Really a shockingly good fuzz.

Lastly, the Tru-Tron continues to absolutely blow me away. It's making me think that I can put up one of my Mutron IIIs for trade.

The Spacerocket is what Spaceman recommended to me for bass, Its definitely the more affordable Spaceman pedal. What would you say the overall feel/tone of the Spacerocket is, or comparable to other fuzz pedals?

Troll-la la la lahhh!

They're all foamin' at the mouth 'cause somebody claims to have the new Deeper Impactful in hand ...

'Twas super smelly to begin with. Have a spritz, Fritz...

However, merely posting something like the following crowned glory effectively is feeding the troll...

So I'm posting it here just to get it off my chest.

You are clearly right and I clearly am guilty

We all get taken in by trolls from time to time, 'tis human nature. 'Tis human nature to troll, and to be trolled.

Oh, and WTFudgsicle is a Mellinial? Is that hipster speak for Millennial?

Sorry, I have a beard, sometimes wear checked shirts and ride a singlespeed... but I'm old and was doing all that before it was considered hipper than hipster. Is that hipster enough, to claim to be doing something before it was considered hip(ster)?

Some say you've gotta be young to be a hipster, but a few of my older friends are hipsters — thankfully the hip replacement surgery is covered under their healthcare plans.

One advantage of having them in a chain is the CV control when bypassed... The low pass envelope out is always on and can be used for other CV duties. I've done both, and the only one I bypass now is the Low Pass.

The Ring Mod is also always on. I used to take the carrier signal from the Ring Mod to feed the Sweep In on the 12-stage Phaser, then when you switch the phaser to 12 stage mode, you actually get two 6-stage phasers in parallel, one controlled by the knobs on the phaser, and one by the Ring Mod.

I was skeptical but not skeptical enough. Thanks for the reality check.

I was skeptical but, honestly, not interested enough in the Deep Impact reissue to be skeptical enough. I am not knocking it, but, honestly, until I see a unit and price, I am not going to even think about it and start gassing over it.

Now, if it ever gets released and priced at a level that I am ok with, well, the GASing will start :)

My hand is killing me today. Words to the wise. Face bones are harder than hand bones, and if it never heals properly its gonna hurt on cold days like today years down the line. Its more embarrassing to be slapped by another grown man anyway. Maybe not as effective but much more degrading.
The best way I've found of breaking someone's will to fight you os to pick them up over your head and throwing them on the ground. :)

Punching is over rated. I broke my wrist last year in training - by punching a stupid pad in a scenario... :rollno:

So I went downstairs and messed around for 10 minutes so that I could give you a slightly better response...

Look - I don't have every kind of fuzz pedal: I have Muffs, one Tonebender, one Shin Ei type (the Sasori), one that has been compared to a Wooly Mammoth (the FATM), one fuzz face type that I never use on bass (the Keeley Fuzz Head) and I have the Spaceman types. Then the Duality which is clearly its own beast. I don't have anything like a Bee Ba or the B:Assmaster. So I can't compare there.

The Spaceman fuzzes I have don't really sound so much like another type of fuzz that you would immediately say "IT'S A TONEBENDER" or whatever. They are rather unique. The two I have are very different but they do share a particular "Spaceman" flavor.

The Spacerocket has a three position switch on top. Tthe switch controls fuzz gain in theory but it feels like it is adding mids. I like the first position (most bass) and third position (best cut) the most. Maybe the gain is mid-range focused?

It's not a creamy type of Muff fuzz at all, but it retains low end really well on all settings. You notice the lows more in the first setting maybe because there is less going on to distract you from them. When you pay attention, low end definition is solid on each setting.

I would generally describe it as having a pretty cutting (dare I saw buzz saw) style to it. But nothing as extreme or as horn like as the Sasori - that REALLY excels in this regard. But it is richer than the Sasori - partially because it has a crushing low end that you can feel and partially because the tonal nature is just different.

That was about as helpful as a hernia, I know.

I feel like it has the low end of a good Muff and the cut/bite of a good buzz saw. With a midrange that is variable as you move the switch.

I hadn't realized that Zach still had Spacerockets in stock. I do sometimes I wish I had sprung for one of the style-y-er finishes like the Chrome or brushed silver. I also didn't realize that the Spacerockets were that expensive at manufacturer's retail. I got mine at a great price and frankly I didn't even realize it. I thought they were around $225 new (in the basic finish).

To be honest, at the prices on the site, I would cough up the extra and get a Sputnik. Of course, springing nearly 4 bills for a fuzz isn't on everybody's happy-happy-joy-joy list. It isn't on mine for sure. But I am super happy I bought a Sputnik.

And to think @DirtyDuke tells me that the Gemini III is even more versatile.

Speaking of which, Duke or @nshuman - anything to add?

This is the Sputnik that I really like - finish wise - Spaceman Sputnik 23 of 35 | Reverb There is an olive one on Reverb as well - which is also quite nice Spaceman Sputnik Germanium Fuzz #24 of 50 | Reverb

Another fun way would to buttercup them. Nothing like a wet fart wrapped around your nose to dissuade drunken misfits.

Yeah especially the older you get. Sometimes when a drunk ******* is in your wife's face you forget your other options. I also found out teeth go through a lip rather easily that night.

Was this recently? You ruffian!

I do like your second option. Never heard of a "buttercup" before.

The Spacerocket is hard to describe.

I just tried it and, I don't know. It's not like anything else I have. It kind of sounds like gated muffled sputnik sometimes. It is not creamy, more sawtoothy, not as sputtery as let's say a fuzz face variant like a TAFM.

I kept trying all my fuzzes just now to try and see what it is like, and it's not really like anything else I have.

Then, I kept stacking all my fuzzes :)

I went back downstairs - and Shu's description is pretty spot on. It's muffled compared to the Sputnik because it adds this warm thing that the Sputnik doesn't. In all settings. It's a really cool fuzz no doubt. Again - I prefer the lower gain and the full on setting the most. Of course I have barely gotten this thing so we'll see.

It's really not fair to step on the Sputnik though when you have just been playing with anything else. It is just remarkable how clear and transparent the Sputnik is.
