pedal case / board that can be used while closed?

Hey all,

I've just added a few pedals to my rig that will be always on, and pretty much set once per gig and forget about them.

So i was hoping to find a pedal board / case / box type thing that maybe has side foam (ideally), or holes, so that the pedals can be plugged in, on, and working inside while being protected from being stood on, jumped on, kicked, minor drink spills etc.

i figure if they are "set on and forget" type pedals, then why have them in the open where they can be easily kicked unplugged or kicked off accidentally.

I'm not much of a handy person, so anyone have any ideas or has found something similar for sale?


p.s. my current setup is: bass -> korg pitch black tuner -> danelectro fish & chips eq -> boss LMB3 -> behringer bdi21 -> amp. currently just powering them all with a 5 way daisy chain dc plug.
the tuner is the only thing i'd want kept out of the box and stompable during gigs.

I'm not sure you're going to find what you want that's specifically made for that application. I would buy a pedalboard and put it on top of my amp.

You could buy a Pelican case. They have pluckable foam so you can make it fit anything you want.
You could buy a small suitcase or briefcase. Find some foam and cut it to fit what you want it to fit.

yeah the only reason i'm keeping it all together at the moment is so it all runs on the same power cord. otherwise switching the "always on" pedals to be near my amp would be good.

with the foam sides thing i was thinking more about the sides so that the cords running in/out of the box don't get crunched or anything. but then somehow having it turn into a regular case for transporting, clipped shut properly etc.

what's "plucked foam" with the pelican case?

It's foam that is scored in small sections so you can pull it apart. Look on their website, a picture will explain it much better.

Get a briefcase, drill a hole on each end, mount input and output jacks to it.
That way it stays closed, you just plug into the outside of the case.

If your pedals are always on perhaps just put them on a small board on top of your amp. You can put them in a case for transport and then they will be safe on top of your amp during the gig. Pedaltrain nano or mini is probably all you need and both have decent case options out there.

I know this is not what you asked for but it might solve your problem and avoid a custom build.

Somewhat related, I can't believe no one has come up with a sneeze guard type of thing for a pedaltrain

Find somebody down-under that is handy. There's got to be at least one custom pedalboard maker in Oz.

Get a two-tiered board made and have the always-on pedals mounted under the top tier.

I've handled this several different ways over the years. Right now I have two always on pedals. My compressor is on my board and the other is tucked inside the back of my rack. You could just get a small pedalboard that comes with a case for example a pt mini or nano and just have the zipper opened an inch or so for the cables to come through. Personally I like being able to get to my stuff fast though because it's annoying to have to dig around to make adjustments

-Dap Audio D7401 case- I don't use it like this when playing (I like to switch stuff up) but it helps
keep the board clean and dust free when not in use, without having to disconnect anything.
