Pedal Demos!

Zach this is an excellent demo video and I really appreciate how much time you take to discuss all of the modular-esque expression settings! Never seen the MF-101 and Randy interraction before but it's awesome.

I kinda hate how much I want to buy a MuRF friend for my MF-101...

Haha, it is a pretty cool pedal for sure! I will say that it can feel a bit repetitive, but every time I think that I find some new little sound that makes me go

Wow Zachary....that is a massive video!!

I really like the fresh re-introduction to the Hog2 and your general comments about moving away from Midi switchers. I've found mine (ES-5) to be great for speedily accessing complex patch arrays but it stifles creativity. I think performance is in buttons...but creativity is in the knobs / pots & sliders!
The Hog2 is a pedal that I've owned for about 5 years, but due to my earlier midi switching approach, I kind of lost my control of it when I relied purely on presets. I forgot how to use it and I've had to re-learn it again using it's sliders. I chose my Boss ES-5 because it was a lot smaller than the ES-8 and I didn't want everything in a loop. I wanted to have my Stereo pedals after the ES-5's output. I find that my Stereo pedals don't seem to need their pedal order changing. I tend to use my ES-5 midi command abilities as a "here's where I start" set of patches and loop order. Then I can dial in changes or tweaks using my FaderFox PC4 or even swap specific patches (like patch over-rides) with the default 6 patches on my Source Audio pedals. If I don't like my ES-5's current patched modulation....I have another 6 effectively on speed dial. Same with filters, dirt, etc.

I have to say...I've loving your Dimension patch on your H9, is that something you have created yourself? Would you consider sharing your settings for that? PM me if you don't want it circulated! I've been looking for that particular sound for a while. I have a similar patch dialled into my SA Nemesis...however...it then ties up my delay. I worked out a Dimension patch for my SA Lunar...but it's not quite as lush sounding as your H9 patch.

I'm adding the link to your vid to my browser bookmarks as there is just SO much good stuff in it! My head is well and truly blown and spinning!

Here's that Dimension preset on the H9. Quite a few parameters are being changed via expression to go from subtle to really detuned.

Very cool sounds and very inspiring ;)
One thing that maybe you have mention but I didn't heard or understand: you have two mirrowed Acugroove, which config? 12/6/1? Wedge position as I can see. And which stereo amp? Any preamp?
I have two Accugroove Wedgie+ and two Mesa Subway D800. Left channel goes to one and right goes to the other. And the cabs are on the right and left side of me respectively. Stereo in the room is quite cool! Still love stereo on headphones too though.

Cool! I have a Fearless F112 and it is always in wedge position, saving for adding a mirrowed one. Now I still use my Genz-Benz Shuttle 112 cab to pair with the F112, powered by a Crown XLS 1502.
Stereo chorus, delay and reverb from my Hx Effects are very nice, with headphones too.

Hi Zachary, I'm having problems watching this video on youtube. Is it encoded in a non standard codec? I'm seeing a "This video is unavailable on this device".
For what it's worth, I don't see it on his youtube channel. Perhaps he had to take it down for some reason.
Should be back up. Don't know what happened there.

I am side chaining it! I have a split at the front of my board into an envelope trigger in I added to my 101. So the 101 is always triggered with my dry bass.

I went deep diving through the Spectrum's manual to see if I could try something similar to what you are doing with your Moog LF-101 modifications. I noticed that a single voice can indeed be side chained. So while I'm not looking to mimic your sound (that's yours) it is causing me to research a whole new avenue and approach to how I want to trigger my filter and why.

So I might run a patch on my Ultrawave to push out a hot clean signal to it's 2nd output and not use my Hog2's dry output at all. The process is working great, even without the extra buffer. I’ve never thought of doing this before.

I just discovered this thread, and wanted to say this side chaining discussion for envelope filters is blowing my mind. I know it might be common knowledge to many, but I was unaware of this approach. I'm also a Source Audio guy, and I'm thinking I should be able to connect output 2 of an EQ2 or Atlas into input 2 of a C4, and configure the C4 envelopes to react to it. It seems like this would let me boost and/or configure the EQ of an independent dry bass signal to make it the optimal trigger source for the C4. Exciting stuff.

With the Spectrum / C4 you don’t need to side chain it to get it to react, just give it a really hot input and dial back the Sensitivity control to taste.
