OP - I used to use an SKB PS-25 which is very similar to that Gator board. A plastic board that an adaptor plugs into, and has little outlets for power cords to your pedals.
I found the adaptor underpowerd for the amount of pedals (6) that the board could power, so I swapped it for a 1 spot. Then realized that I could just run the 1 spot daisy chain to all my pedals and not even use the supplied connectors.
The SKB essentially became a piece of plywood, and worked great for my purposes.
As for the Velcro, go to Wal-Mart or Home Depot or something and get a 5' length of 2" Industrial Velcro. This works really well sticking to pedals.
Who knows, you may actually use the soft side for a future piece of plywood pedalboard....which is exactly what I'm doing...but using the SKB soft case to carry it around.
