Pedaltrain MINIs United Again!

Kind of a dumb question here…

I'm about to get a Mini and I don't anticipate having more than 5 pedals at once. What's the advantage of the VoodooLab and DC Brick over the much cheaper OneSpot?

The main advantage of the brick power supplies is that they can power pedals that require other than 9V power. I have my main board on a 1-Spot and it works great. Simple power supply, just daisy chain pedals and go.

The Dunlop has three 18V power spots and the Voodoo can power some weirder ones like Line6 I believe. The 1-Spot only powers 9V pedals, but doesn't take up as much space or require board mods (some people mount the Voodoo or Fuel Tank underneath, which requires cutting out a chunk underneath on a Mini).

Kind of really just depends on what you want to power.

I power this board with a 1-Spot and it works great, but they're all standard 9V pedals.

And I have this board on a Dunlop Brick (the older black model). It uses all 7 9V spots and two 18V spots for the Pigtronix and Tone Hammer.

Thanks for that. I will go with a 1spot unless I end up with some 18V effects.. Even then, couldn't I just plug a single 18V supply and a 1spot into a surge protector and mount that to the board?

For sure. That's the way I was doing my bigger board for a while... 18V Pigtronix supply for the EP2 and the 1-Spot both plugged into the power strip beneath the board. Worked great!

Fellow PT Mini users/fans, I thought I'd pass on a little nugget of knowledge...

I've been on the search for a good, cost effective, one bag solution for my Mini and extras, but have always wanted a hard case for it as well. Well, I'm pretty sure I just found the holy grail... a 2-in-1 Dewalt case, found with the tool cases at Home Depot for $24.97.

So far, the Mini fits PERFECTLY in the bottom half, and the top tool case (which locks into the bottom) fits all sorts of goodies. It's a one case grab-and-go solution, no matter what rig (or rigless!) I bring. So far, here's what I've fit in the top, with room to spare:

20ft instrument cable
10ft instrument cable
2ft Speakon cable
3ft Speakon
(2x) 6ft 1/4" speaker cable
12ft power cable
Extra set of strings
16ft headphone extension
6ft headphone extension
Gig headphones
Earplugs in case
LED flashlight
Polishing cloth
Detailing towel
Guitar polish travel packs (you just never know!)
String winder/tool
Utility knife
Small multi tool
Large multi tool
Precision screwdriver kit
(2x) 9v batteries
Planet Waves headstock tuner in case

I have yet to test it in the wild, but I'm expecting it'll be pretty perfect.

No worries... my pictures weren't the greatest!

You're correct, that biga** handle is on the bottom part and carries both when the top is locked in. It seems to work pretty great so far. The Mini sits nice and snug in that lower section, doesn't slide around at all. I'm stoked to see what else I can fit in there that I might need on a gig. I already feel like I could cover any minor emergency that might arise. I think maybe some electrical tape and I'd be good! ;)

Very cool.

Only drawback of being that organized is you'll have people coming to you with "hey, can I borrow a ..." :)

I know because I'm the guy with tools, batteries, duct tape etc in our band.

Yerp, tell me about it! that's part of the reasons I wanted something like this. One of my bands is a total 3-ring circus... Until recently when I made it clear that I bring MY gear for ME, I used to carry a set of drum sticks in my gig bag for the drummer, who is a gigging professional but can't seem to remember his sticks. :rollno: I had to bring my keyboard several times for the main keys player who put his keyboard into storage when he move :eyebrow: and the other keyboard player has borrowed the power supply for said keyboard on several occasions. :scowl:

But no more. I'm organized for ME. And I've put a lot of hard work and money into getting this organized. ;) If you know you're playing a gig, bring your !@#$%&! keyboard stand.

Sorry! /rant lol

man, I could have written this post word for word! I always made it a point to carry something for everyone, I'd have extra drumsticks in my bag, a hihat clutch, guitar strings, acoustic guitar pegs, picks, etc. But it got to the point where everyone would rely on me and always using what I had brought for emergency at regular gigs, so those days finally came to an end.

Hey 5sg - how is the DeWalt case working out? Just built a new pedal board with the Nano and along with my other accessories, cables, etc., this looks pretty cool instead of continuing with the old beat up backpack.

Secretly, I have GAS (or OCD) for any kind of organization stuff like gear cases, racks, etc. so this looks very promising. Thanks!

I'm definitely digging it man! It's bulkier than the Pedaltrain soft-side bag of course, but it carries everything I need and other band members have commented on how it's a great idea.

Since that picture I posted, I've added electrical tape, a full size ratcheting screwdriver just because, a couple more 9V batteries, my Airturn page turner for my iPad, an allen wrench set and a USB wall charger plug. :)

It doesn't fit as nicely in the front seat of my car as the original bag, but hey... it carries everything I'd need for a gig. I could fully service a bass or disassemble an amp if I needed to! (ooo... maybe I should put an extra preamp tube in there! ;) )

A very cool feature about this case is that since the top section with all the tools/cables/goodies is a self-contained, I could grab just that part of the case if I decide to use my bigger board.

Awesome - I think I will pick one up. Thanks for the great idea!
