People who are banned

I'd like to suggest having a section here that lists the people who are banned, and why. Not in thread form where people can comment, as that would go downhill real quickly - but a listing and explanation. To me that only seems right.

Many of us here form friendships/relationship with other members, and then if or when they're suddenly cut, it's over. And we have to then walk on eggshells trying to find out why.

I have some other ideas about this feature, and more ideas on why I think it would benefit the forum in many ways, but I'm tapping this out on my phone (which I hate doing), and just want to get the ball rolling.

What does everyone else think? Pros? Cons? Suggestions on making it work well?

Would be nice but it's taboo on every other forum I belong too. I wager a good percentage were the results of extraneous circumstances and should be kept private.

Exactly....I moderated a number of other forums (not music related) as well as ran a few and it was generally understood that discussing (or questioning) a member getting banned was unacceptable....that was simply how it was. For the most part, when someone is banned the reason is pretty obvious. People tend to simply move on. In his case, I would imagine he will return as a new user and continue using the site.

If it were done in a way that would help others know what pitfalls to avoid, then maybe.
However, it would likely not be tied to any person, such as NoodleBassFingers (fictiscious name) was banned for constantly using racially charged statements. If I were NoodleBassFingers, I might not want everyone knowing that.
(Some of us know who the person behind the avatar really is.)
But if there were a sticky or something in the rules section that listed reasons that people were banned, but didn't use there screen name, that might work.
On the other hand, it seems that someone going down the path to being banned, has received previous, and numerous warnings. And in some cases, it seems, those who end up being permabanned, only ramp up their efforts to defy the rules after having been temp-banded.

I'd be in favour of it.
It doesn't have to be a hugely detailed reason given.
It'd also be helpful to know if a ban is temporary, or permanent.
Make it a locked thread so there's no comments possible...and to dissuade mods getting messaged about it, make that an offence earning a warning.

I have to say I think this place has the best moderation I've ever come across in all my forum-hopping.
I get the feeling mods really try hard not to go so far as a ban, issuing warnings first.
I'm not actually sure how many warnings get you a ban, mind you.

Some of it would be argumentative and some would just be asking for clarification. But all of it would be a PIA for mods.

Details aren't necessary. Just the rule # broken (are they numbered?) and whether the ban is temporary or permanent. It be as easy as adding a section to the members area. Then it would be like making news of anything. Just a resource to check when we notice someone is banned.

PMs regarding bans will result in bans .

But seriously, they simply won't be allowed. As they aren't now. I don't think mods would have any more PMs than they currently do regarding that. If anything, I think they'd have less.

I post on another forum and they are open about why someone got banned and link to the offensive post. No discussion necessary. Works well.

I guess that'll be a good point. But it's still for a ban of some sort. So the degrees of humility should vary. This isn't a photo, it's a just a forum name.

If you're actually friends then just ask the banned member directly why he or she was banned. If you don't have the person in question's contact information then I would suggest you were never really friends.
