People who are banned

We could be told about the ban. But then, they would have to ban us.
Can we just tag some admins and mods in here and see if they are cool with telling us anything?
I mean, someone else tag them. I don't want to get banned. LOL

I would like to see bans be more inceremental and forum specific. So if you get yourself booted from the amps forum, you can serve a site-wide suspension and be allowed back into all other forums except the one you royally screwed up in.
That's probably half-baked and not well thought through, but the sudden loss of a member of the community due to banning is a bit unsettling for the rest of us. I understand the need for discretion and privacy but this website represents a significant part of my social life. Not to mention the value of the classifieds. To think you'd lose access to that just for one really bad (possibly drunken) communication decision. Sheesh!

Just because I'm naturally curious as to the why, it's really pointless to go there. It won't lead to anything good at all.
Correct and his IP would presumably be tracked to prevent such an occurrence (otherwise, there wouldn't be much of a point in banning people).
Another forum I'm part of does this. They give a reason for Ban or Probation and how long it will last with a link to the post. As far as I've seen, there has been very little questioning after the fact. Sure it happens, but not very often over the course of several years there. I don't think all of that information would be necessary, but something like what was suggested earlier "user banned for violating rule #3" would be nice. Might even help keep some of us from making the same mistake.
I'm surprised that people are suggesting these reasons stay unknown out of respect for the offender's privacy. I would assume most people are banned as a result of a post here on the forums where presumably they would have found it perfectly acceptable for all of us to read it. I don't really see any harm in pointing out what they did wrong...

The reason for banning may be obvious to the mods involved, but not necessarily anyone else.
Objectionable posts and content tend to get cleaned up quickly, so its pretty common for me to see someone banned but have nothing member visible remaining of whatever (usually) egregious act precipitated the ban hammer. Unless the act was sufficiently entertaining to be preserved in the Lobby - there's some great stuff there.
Anyway, I understand this is all done to keep things civil and let people move on, but it does sometimes lead to absolute confusion as to why some guy you've been chatting with for years has vaporized without a trace.

It's funny, I never see any drama on the forums. I never know why someone is banned, I just notice their post is now listed as banned. I have no idea who this thread is about, and totally missed whatever led up to the ban. Maybe that's because I only use the "New Posts" feature and select a very limited number topics to view (tort guards, nbd's, carrots, short-scale basses, etc., etc...)

Doesn't make a lick of difference to me either way. I trust the Mods to do their jobs and I don't really care why someone got booted. It would be potentially useful to know if the ban is permanent or not though.
You can't possibly be wondering why Jeff was banned.....
Honestly, I can look at any banned member, and tell you immediately why they were banned. I don't really need a thread or moderator to tell me that. Their actions are typically egregious, dramatic, and self-explanatory.
As for lost friendships? I'd argue that if all you know about someone is their screen name, then you aren't friends.
Otherwise, I think this is a terrible idea.

I could deduce, in general, why Jeff got booted, but still wouldn't mind knowing the culminating event. The Jauqo III-X thing mystifies me more than anything.
If I had to guess.....I'd speculate it was the profanity-laced tirade in which he insulted the moderators by name. Just a guess......
