There was a long discussion on this a year or so ago. You might want to search it out in the forum suggestion section. Bottom line was that it could only possibly have a negative effect in an otherwise fairly positive community. If someone doesn't like something they're free to say so, which would also hopefully include an explanation. Or they could simply ignore it and move on.
I strive for succinticity. That was a great Police album, btw.

It's a way of saying thank you and it's not hard to do.The other day I was scrolling through a thread where a lot of people were pitching in to help a member, and I was looking at the likes to see what advice people agreed with most.
It occurred to me that the OP didn't acknowledge any of the feedback with a like.
I then realized that I don't believe I ever saw that particular member "like" a post.
Liking a post is absolutely not a requirement for TB participation, but to me seems like the, "polite?" thing to do?
I started me wondering about the personality of such people, cuz I'm interested in such things. Are these the same people who never say thank you when someone holds a door for them? Are these selfish people? Completely self absorbed? Are these people who are full of pride? Are these people who simply hate the idea of "likes" on the internet?
I don't know.
Do you "like" posts.

I noticed something today.
99.9% of my posts are in Off Topic, and pretty much everyone knows why.
Over the last couple days I've been getting notifications of likes for one of my posts, and they're coming from people I don't recognize.
I went to the thread, and realized it had been moved to Misc. A whole new audience for my post.
It's funny/interesting to me how each forum has it's group of users who post there regularly. Or maybe it's me, and my posting habits are unique here.

Exactly. Most other (or at least some of) forums you get your reputation boosted along with it. Not the case here, so there's no incentive devious or otherwise not to do so if someone's post touched you in any positive way.
I give likes.
If it is a thread that I created asking for advice on something, or showing of a new bass, for example, I like and I reply saying thank you. I think it's a way of being polite and saying to the person that took the time to help me or to show support, that I appreciate the gesture.
In other TB'ers threads I like if I agree with the post and if it was something I would write myself.

I'd prefer +1 -1 system.
because sometimes I think somebody is a jackass but i don't want to take time to explain it or flame up the trollery. Same for the one's I like. It's cool to see who liked what too, but I can understand why having negative reviews with the names would sour the love fest quickly.
