I will say this...if you think highly enough of my post to quote it in a positive light, you'd better "Like" it, too!
What I often do, is read through an entire thread, and then make a pithy statement that aligns with the prevailing sentiment

Once my post has had 10 or more "likes", I'll wait 4 or 5 days, before I come back and secretly edit my post - changing it to the most offensive, politically charged, rant imaginable.
It's surprising, some of the people who seem to agree with that point of view

.I usually like a post if I agree or they save me the hassle of having to post the same thing.The other day I was scrolling through a thread where a lot of people were pitching in to help a member, and I was looking at the likes to see what advice people agreed with most.
It occurred to me that the OP didn't acknowledge any of the feedback with a like.
I then realized that I don't believe I ever saw that particular member "like" a post.
Liking a post is absolutely not a requirement for TB participation, but to me seems like the, "polite?" thing to do?
I started me wondering about the personality of such people, cuz I'm interested in such things. Are these the same people who never say thank you when someone holds a door for them? Are these selfish people? Completely self absorbed? Are these people who are full of pride? Are these people who simply hate the idea of "likes" on the internet?
I don't know.

Y'all should really like on Facebook or Instagram if you like something. It's good for the content provider
Yep, a band may get booked that spot based on 1,000+ likes on FB, as opposed to only having a few dozen.
The times the are a changin'. Send a digital link to your music, website, FB page, etc... they'll prob listen to 30 seconds each of 2 songs, look at some pictures on your website, & open up your artist FB page to see how many likes you've gathered (hoping that around a 1/4 of those people show up.)
I tend to throw a 'like' at anything meaningful that I particularly agree with. I try to do it before looking too hard at whoever made the post, in order to keep myself honest.
Sometimes I'm generous with the likes, sometimes I'm not. It depends on my mood to a degree, but I also struggle with liking something I find substantial even if I don't agree with it. I also can't stand the rare occasions when people beg for likes--nope, not gonna encourage that.
The NAMM thread is interesting. I started out only liking the posts that featured instruments I was interested in, but then I started trying to take the time to like all of the OP's contributions, because he busted his butt taking pics of pretty much everything bass-related--and commenting on it--at the entire show! To me the interesting likes are those when a couple of posters are arguing. Likes help keep score.

I do. However, I do it just because I think that poster is keen and I want them to like me too. This is why I like everything @slobake posts. And @Joe Nerve. And a bunch of other cats and kitties, daddyo.
Actually I do it for the same reason that most have already said but I also throw in a pity like every now and again for those poor slobs who haven't got a clew how to spel or grammer good.
No. Well, sorta. It takes effort to never like, I think. I mean the button is there and the list of likers is there, so I think you have to make a conscious effort to not do it, so I think it's done with a purpose. I don't know what the purpose is - maybe consistency - but I think you don't like because you don't want to.

Some people stand out more than others. Especially when they're quick with snarky, negative, or challenging responses.

, you start noticing trends and habits. Not sayin that's necessarily a good thing.I dont spend a ton of time on TB but Im pretty dialed into details so I definitely connect certain actions and behaviours in with certain members, I see patterns. Its associated by memory.Well....
