People who don't give "likes"

I don't even think these people actually owned any of these guitars. Quite frankly I would be very cautious about recommending those brands along with others that gets mentioned often. I bought a bunch of them and I regret them for the most part. They just sucked out of the box. I have over 30 and I don't count those in the collection I have. They sucked enough to just sit in a box after the first 30 minutes.

I am pretty sure a lot of the peeps have no experience with what they are recommending when they say, buy an Ibanez or buy an SX. Which one do they recommend? I know Killed by Death actually owns and plays them so you can trust that guy, but when someone says a brand name without the specific model..... that's really iffy. They just type out the obvious that people take as a truth on TB. (not a fact but truth). The first one to recommend some brand or P bass gets 5000000 likes and some newbie ends up thinking it's the best thing on earth.

Another thing is people getting likes for answering the OPs question with a question and never getting back to the OP. Epitome of rude in my eyes. You ask a question, the OP answers it, then give feedback. what the heck is the point of asking a question to the OP if you're not going to answer it? I noticed, these are the same people that don't give likes. Any coincidence?

I doubt people responding on this particular thread do this but it's common on every forum. No one would ever do that in real life. You'd be classified as some part of the male anatomy if you answered the question with a question and never followed up.

At the end of the day, it could just be me but seriously, it's free to give likes. Make someone feel good. You get what you put in.

you say you're pretty sure that a lot of folks recommend basses they have no experience with. why are you pretty sure of that? i've owned over 40 basses in the last 20 years, had several more on loan, several more that i had for a few days and returned, and then there are basses like the music man bongo and the epiphone EB0 that i haven't owned, but have probably played each one over 5 hours each. and i suspect that's not unusual here.

i never recommend any bass or guitar i haven't at least spent some quality time with BUT there is an exception. that is when someone says they need a particular set of specs; for example, they want a bass with a shorter scale than 30", wants to play regular metal bass strings (not rubbery ubass strings), wants a lightweight solid body bass. even if i had never played a mikro, i'd certainly suggest they try one out as they're one of the few or only basses that fits that set of requirements/preferences.

I'm torn. On the one hand, there are other internet forums I frequent that don't provide the option to 'like' someone's post, and I often find myself thinking "Darn, I really want to 'like' this post!"
On the other hand I think social media has gotten out of hand and the very fact that this thread exists indicates what a (potential) obstacle to normal human interaction it can become. Who gives a crap whether somebody 'likes' something or not? What's far more important imho is posting stuff that's worthy of being liked (in either the virtual or the real emotional sense).

I'm not too sure about that. I think people get equal amounts of likes (or more) if they say something very true, very wise, or very funny. And if it's said within the first 5 responses, it gets liked exponentially. I've noticed too that OPs are liked less than most other posts. Haven't checked here yet but I'm going to guess this thread will be an exception :).

Are these selfish people? Completely self absorbed? Are these people who are full of pride? Are these people who simply hate the idea of "likes" on the internet?

Never once have I gone to someone's profile to see how many likes they have, or even considered doing so to influence how I feel about their posts. So to me, no.
