People you thought were dead

When Lawrwence Welk died, David Letterman announced it on his show and then said something like, what's really sad about this is that I thought he was dead 10 years already.

When Richard Dawson died a couple of weeks ago, I was shocked as I was under the impression that he had killed himself a long time ago.

Tonight I ran into an old friend and he said, "You'll never guess who I was just talking to on the phone." I asked who, and he told me another old, good friend of ours, Dan. Dan was a really powerful mentor type older guy in my life. He taught me a lot about many things, then moved a few hundred miles away and we lost touch. I heard he got sick, and about 10 years ago I was told he passed away. Over those years more than one person also confirmed he had passed on. I had no reason to question it, kind of mourned his death, and I was completely blown away tonight. :) I got goosebumps. Literally like someone coming back from the dead. Looking forward to calling this guy. Not sure if I should tell him I was completel convinced he was dead. :)

The same thing happened to me with an ex-girlfriend through facebook about a year ago. I was told she had comitted suicide like 20 years ago. Made sense, as the girl was a total mess. Found out she's still a mess, but very much alive.

Anyone else ever have someone come back to life on them, or die after you were certain they were dead?

Yep, the original owner of my pink bass, I was told the guy had died and moved out so for almost two months that's what I believed and shared with others.

It wasn't until later that I started to catch wind that the original story I was given couldn't have been further from the truth.
It was confirmed shortly afterwards and I have since talked spoken to him indirectly through his daughter several times since then. Not quite as weird but I can't think of anything else.

Oh yeah wait, Yes I had a friend from when I was young that was shot by an opposing gang (Well as gang-like as a bunch of kids from the suburbs could be) none the less they shot him 13 times and it was believed that he died.
He popped up on Facebook a few years back, it ended up that after he was released from the hospital he found that his family had moved out of the state and that was why nobody ever saw him again. Rumors are dangerous things among'st teenagers.
He recovered pretty well considering the amount of damage the shots did to him, he is permanently paralyzed but seems to be enjoying his life very much, very religious has kids and is married now.

I don't know much else I've not been in great contact with him since I am not really religious and he always attempts to convert me. We're just two completely different people now.

Lol, I almost went there but thought better of it.

I'm sure he wouldn't be nearly as uptight and rigid as those typically defending his honor.
I mean C'mon the man rocked hair past his shoulders, had a fantastic beard, had Jesus sandals 2000 years before they were ever in style amongst yuppies and hippies and walked around in a sheet presumably free ballin.

He must have been pretty laid back. : )

1shots mention of the pink bass reminded me of another story I'd like to forget....

Had a friend who wanted to borrow a cheap Casio CZ101 synth that I had. I didn't want to lend it to him, because I used it every day, and I didn't entirely trust this guy. He was an ex heroin addict, and just an all round strange dude. Nice guy though. He really wanted to borrow it for some project he was doing, so he offered me his Les Paul as a temporary trade. The Les Paul was easily worth 10X what I paid for the synth, so I agreed. I couldn't have better insurance than that. Months passed, I didn't hear from him. Then we talked. Sadly, he had been diagnosed with AIDS, and well... the Casio and Les Paul didn't even come up in the conversation. A few months later he slipped into a coma, and people who knew him said it was pretty much over.

About a year later I sold the guitar. 6 months after that my phone rang.

I never got my Casio back so my conscience is clear.

Wow so he lived ?

Is he still living?

Did he ever ask about his guitar?

And I'd be curious who did get the synth. It may just be sitting in some closet somewhere.

I'd find out and maybe offer to buy it from whoever has it.

He does a lot better job than I can. He was laid back except when it came to religious hypocrites those where the people He spoke harshly of. I do have to say it though, I believe He is not dead.
