Perfectly Useless Bass Products

Music, but not bass specific.
At a FOH gig this month (I now do them all with ipad based mixers) I was given a highboy table, and a bar stool to mix from. Due to some seriously strange geometry, the bar stool leaned forward enough to periodically dump the Sound Goddess (moi) on my ass with big thump (I'm not a small girl).

Early on in my playing, I bought some kind of product you are supposed to rub on the strings to make them more playable (i.e., less sticky or something). Can't even remember what it was called, but it was pointless to me and had no effect on playability. I realize someone's probably going to comment that they love that product, which is fine. To each his own.

Finger Ease. Geddy Lee was in print somewhere back in the day as liking it.

A neck with a loop in the middle like a Roller Coaster.

A special slap bass thumb that you attach over your real thumb to give you more mass. Models molded from famous players like Bootsy Collins, Flea, and Nathan East are available.

The Thumbs should come with new strings hidden inside the packages, like the cereal boxes or Cracker Jacks. Collect them all. Trade with your friends.

Or dioramas with 10-15 of your favorite thumbs mounted side by side for easy comparison. Press the button below each thumb to hear a snippet what that thumb can do. Of course the dioramas come in different genres - Heavy metal thumbs, Funk thumbs, Motown Thumbs, etc.

How about a necklace made of your favorite thumbs?

THUMB GUMMIES!!

Thumbs with a push pin - call them Thumb tacks.
Thumbs that keeps two pieces of wood together - Thumb Nails.
What do you call an intoxicated digit. - Thumbelina

Ok - I've purged myself
This house is clean.

Toilet paper with said extremity printed on every sheet, for those who walk around with their thumbs up thier @$$.

Saw this one in a Czech club backstage: a battery operated tuner, with battery access only on the back, bolted to a wall to prevent stealing. And prevent using.

Had one once: strap so elastic that the bass keeps bouncing and never stay in a proper playing position.

Haha! Classic. Where I live (eastern Slovenia), "češko", which is "Czech", refers to clumsy makeshift stuff like this, as well as anything tasteless and cheap- there are "czech parties" where you come in your most garish and tacky vintage clothing (paisley bell-bottoms and a sheepskin vest would be perfect), and drink cheap hooch until everyone is vomiting all over. This comes from the socialist days when Czechoslovakians had a lot more money compared to Yugoslavians, and would stop by this area on their way to the Adriatic sea.

Czech tackiness really is genuinely epic and charming to this day, though. In Prague not too long ago, I saw a teenage boy in a santa-claus-red velvet 3 piece suit, walking around in broad daylight. In Krumlow, pretty much the whole population looked just like one of our local "czech parties". I'm sure Dr. Who must be very popular, because Tom Baker's Dr. Who would be a "sharp dressed man" by those standards. It doesn't hurt that Czech and especially Slovak women are the most beautiful women in the world- doesn't even matter that the lady is wearing a dress crudely hand-stitched together from her grandmother's dish towels, she is still super hawt.
