Lots of gigging, and oportunity to promote the product, in Rockstars case, seeing the stickers all over the bands gear etc, or for Fender, playing their bass in front of crowds every week.
If you're out there enough to flash the brand, they'll cut you a deal, depending on your fame level, it could be a discount, buy at cost, free stuff, anything. For example, Steve Harris gets his strings for free(IIRC).

uh, my point exactly, he endorses Roto, huge rockstar, gets their name about, so they give him all the strings he wants for free.You know, it was him that went to Roto, they were gonna stop making flats, and Steve said he'd do a sig set, endorse them, whatever, as long as they keep making them.

Oh, and the Roto flats are awesome, espcially the heavy guage of the Steve Harris set. I use 'em.

P-Bass, Roto Flats, Pick, sometimes Flanger or Phaser, thats Phil's tone.
I can near exact cop his tone with flats and a pick, or as much as I need to for Lizzy songs.
i dont even count what i have as an endorsement its like some shirts, stickers and drinks. I refused to put the stickers on my bass i hate stickers on my instruments so my cab is just smothered
