I didn't have the funds to take it to a shop. It was just a quick job I did in my father's garage. The piston oil drain holes were totally clogged.
If you have the time and ability to DIY, you're money ahead. We used to see Celicas, Corollas and other Toyota products of the day with the 1ZZ rolling thru the auction lanes for cheap.... all had the oil drinking issues and that's why they went so cheaply.
The dealer I did work for back then never wanted to spend the time/money to fix that issue..... it's no wonder I don't do work for them any longer.
I had 2 of them. 69z28 302dz. X77 cowl tag.M22rock crusher 4:56 factory gears and of course 12bolt as all z had them. That one was black/white stripes.
Other one was 69rs/z28 x33d80 cowl plate .green/white stripes 302/m21/3.73 gears.
All 69z28 came with 4speed only. Were not available with an automatic.
Both had tach. Redline at 8000 rpm
Had a nice 68ss350 camaro convertible.
Red with red interior,white top and white rally stripes.

I almost bought one of those, many years ago. Until I sat in it. The rear visibility (at least for me) was very bad. I didn't even test drive it.

Me too. It was my dream car. Later in life, as an adult, I did have a Lotus Esprit for six years and then sold it as I was having a problem getting it a smog certificate for the car.

Now days cars are sooo tall the main visibility issue I have is seeing over other cars and getting blinded by headlights from other cars as well because the seating position is so low to the ground
When i was in high school, i worked delivering pizza for domino's. There was another guy a few years older than me (I was 16 or 17 at the time) who delivered pizza that had a Lotus Europa and a Sunbeam Alpine. He was really nerdy and lived with his parents and worked only to support the purchase and maintenance of those cars. I thought they were both the coolest cars ever and would love to have owned the Sunbeam.
They later stuffed a 289 Ford V8 into them and rebadged them as Tigers.

That was the other thing that was weird for me about that Camaro: I felt like I was sitting on the street.
I fully agree. I have always been a sports car guy since my late teens. I have noticed over the past two decades the SUV conversion of the national car fleet which now has obstructed my forward visibility of the road. This now requires more lane changes in an attempt to follow lower profile cars. That said, I am still driving one.
