Pick your favorite iconic car from any decade....

I tried very hard to buy one of these, a 1955 Fiat 500, sitting semi-rusted out in a field beside the road.

It has a tiny trunk in the front, with a tiny gas tank right in front of the driver & passenger, suicide doors, a folding fabric top, a tiny rear seat suitable for only muppets, tiny one-bolt spindle wheels, and a tiny two cylinder air cooled engine (better suited to driving a sewing machine) in the rear. As designed, every single element of this automobile is pure suck. However . . . put a tube frame under it, remove the gas tank, put a hot four banger in the front with a Pacer cross-flow radiator, install two bucket seats in a more rearward position, and add a little fuel cell in the rear, and voila! Coolest little hot rod ever. Or at least, the littlest cool hot rod ever. Somewhere in there. At the very least, you'd never see another one.

Ralph always said he wanted to make a "stump jumper" out of it. After he died, his son sold it to a roving scrap metal buyer. There's what, about two dozen Coke cans' worth of metal there? Damned shame to see something so unique end so ignominiously.

Mine has a whopping 40 go. But still fun to drive
I always got a kick out of the VW guys talking about their hot rod Beetles. "Well, it's only a 36 hp, but it's got the big 40 hp heads!" Um, okay . . . :D

We saw three Super Stock Beetles at Crossville in the late 70s with so much power that during burnouts, they pulled the front wheels and when they let off, the body would unload and all four tires would leap off the ground. Damned thing I ever saw. They could leap completely off the ground in about two body lengths. Ugly little things though, whereas the Karman Ghias were gorgeous.

Two of my favorites - the Triumph GT6 and Volvo P1800/1800E.

My first car was a P1800 Some day I might pick up a P1800ES (2 door wagon version)

I always wanted a LeCar done up as a racer.... I had a Fuego Turbo that was a killer car for the price...
