Used to be one that raced Brainerd Dragstrip, had a 302 Ford engine. It was pretty fast and extremely cool. I remember one race he backfired and something caught fire; the pit crew was running around waving their arms while the driver tried restarting it. Guess he couldn't see the flames coming out of the hood scoop. Last time I saw it run, he broke something (I assume the differential) on launch. Never even cleared the lights and they had to jack up the rear end to get it off the line. Never saw it again but damn it was a sexy car.

Played golf yesterday and parked my 2017 50th Anniversary Camaro Convertible next to a 1967 Camaro Convertible. This is what a 50 year spread looks like.
IMO, the '64.5 Ford Mustang is the most iconic American car of all. Worldwide the VW Beetle is the most iconic. No pictures required since it's very likely you know what they look like, that's how iconic they are.
Personally, I'd rather have a very non-iconic '60 Plymouth Valiant or Dodge Lancer.

Disagree..... but definitely in the top 5.
IMO, the 57 Chevy Bel Air is the most iconic American car.
That and the Nomad are my second/third for American cars.

My best friend's mom had a convertible one of those. Pretty much this one.
And my mom had an Olds Cutlass convertible.
Pretty much this one (she kept it for years and had it repainted several times, but this was the original color).

I find it ironic that the Barracuda started as an A body fastback and in 1970 "borrowed heavily" from the 67-69 Camaro and Firebird. Yet in 1970 the Camaro and Bird went fastback and the Challenger and 'Cuda retained their shape, hardly continuing their existence in 74. Meanwhile, the competition lived on for decades!

I think I saw this model at the High Museum in Atlanta a few years ago.
The instillation was called something like 'Automobiles As Art"...
It was faaaantastic!!
The perspective is different depending on when you were born and what your experience is.
I was a teenager in the 80's which was when the muscle cars from '65-'75 were just starting to become collectible. For the next 20 years, all the rage was Camaros, Stangs, Cudas, Vettes, and the like.
But serious hot rodders have always been into earlier vintage. The '57 Chevy being a prime example. Magazines were full of hot rodded iron from the '40's to 1965.
If I had to be honest with myself, then objectively, I'd have to consider the Ford Model T to be the most iconic American car, ever.
